Staying at the Poly

I'm hoping to stay at the Poly for a few days in September. I've never stayed here before. I'm planning to book a garden view room because we're never in our room so the view is definitely something I can give up to save a few bucks! :animwink: Anyway, since I've never stayed here before, I want to take advantage of all the resort has to offer. Is the luau worthwhile? How are the restaurants/character breakfast? What about the pool?

Also, what are the parks like in September so far as crowds and temps?

Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You'll love the Poly. They've re-done the lobby interior where the garden and waterfall are, but maybe you already knew that. Anyway, the luau is great, but I'm not big on crowd participation dining, so I really prefer the 'Ohana. The food is absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
I could only afford to stay there when I was a cast member, and, as a warning, I don't remember the garden rooms being that great. But, they were remodeling, so I'm sure it's improved a lot since then. In my opinion, the Poly is so remarkable because the atmosphere. I'd take advantage of the boats, the beach (and watching the fireworks from the beach), the pool, and the tiki bar, of course! Have a great time!

We make it a point to take advantage of the resort's amenities wherever we stay. At the Polynesian, we went to the character breakfast at 'Ohana (fun, good character interaction, great food), had dinner at the Kona Cafe (more great food), and saw the Spirit of Aloha Luau show (again, the food was excellent). The third act alone of the show is worth the price of admission. The other two acts are okay.

The pool is small when compared to StormAlong Bay (but hey, what resort pool isn't?). The volcano is cool.

Also, if you plan on going to Epcot multiple times, you may want to request the Tahiti longhouse so you have a shorter walk to the Ticket & Transportation Center.

One of the forum members here, tikiman, has a very detailed website about the Polynesian.

Have fun!

Been There, Done That, Loved it

Probably the best vacation we've ever taken was our September 2003 trip to WDW and the Polynesian resort. The pool is a lot of fun and the atmosphere is as good or better than any other WDW resort. I highly recommend the Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe. The Luau, Character Breakfast, and Ohana's are a little pricey but each are well worth the cost. We scheduled a day in our trip just to hang at the resort and take it easy. If you have enough time, you won't regret doing that as well. Also, we had a basic garden view room in the Samoa building and found it to have easy access to anywhere you would need to go. And finally, I just have two words for you if you do visit the Poly...Lava Flow.

The Polynesian will always be our favorite resort. So much so, that we could check in and hang out a few days without ever going to the parks. We liked the extra space the rooms have and enjoyed sitting out on our veranda in the morning and evening. Our little one was happy to just be at the resort and he was only 4 at the time.

We've stayed at the Polynesian once & will probably not stay there again. While the setting is beautiful I didn't like having to walk outside to get to the restaurants & shops. (especially in the rain & at night). My kids are used to going to the snack bar or shops alone and this didn't work out for us. (this was the only drawback for us)

We stayed in Rappa Nui which is one of the farthest...right by the TTC (which was a good thing). The rooms are pretty big.
Its easy to get to & travel from.

The pool was a big hit with the kids, it was fun to watch the fireworks & Electrical Boat Parade from the beach and the food is awsome. Try 'Ohana for dinner, its more expensive, but well worth it. We had breakfast at the Kona Kafe almost everyday (yep, its that good).

My family will be staying at the Poly from Sept. 24-Oct. 2. It will be our first stay there, but have eaten at 'Ohana and agree with the others that it is well worth it. It is my family's favorite restaurant, not just at WDW but anywhere! We have made PS there for dinner and for the character breakfast. Can't wait!!
