Staying at Port Orleans Riverside in 37 days...

We stayed there in October 2012 (Alligator Bayou, Bldg. 16) and loved it.

In addition to all that's been said already, my tips would be: (1) if going to DTD, take the Sassagoula River ferry. It's a lovely trip! (2) if you are located anywhere near the main bus depot (South, I believe), use that depot instead of the more far-flung options, and don't be afraid to go "cross country" to get there from Alligator Bayou. Buses often stop at the South depot first and if they fill up there, they leave and send another bus for the other depots rather than continuing around the loop, meaning that the South depot often has faster and more frequent bus service. We were in Building 16, which would have been a long walk if we'd accessed the South Depot by walking to and through the main building, but a quick look at our resort map showed us that by crossing a parking lot and taking an unmarked path, we could get there from our room in about 3 minutes, so that's what we did.

I just got back from POR. Overall, I really enjoyed the resort. That being said, I agree with the earlier poster that the bus situation was not great. Maybe it was because I was there over a weekend (Friday-Tuesday), but there were almost always long waits for the buses and the set-up is pretty chaotic (no waiting line so it's a free-for-all when the buses do arrive). It took us well over an hour to get to MK on Friday night, so budget your time if you want to be there for the parade or fireworks. Coming back was always easier. We took Uber to the parks after that. Yeah - it's not free, but it is STRESS free and only around $7 to get to any of the parks, and Uber drivers are all over Disney so the wait was never more than 5 minutes.

Some other thoughts:

Good: Staff was consistently wonderful; Food court was decent (only ate breakfast there), Riverboat cruise to DTD is nice. We ate at Boatwrights and enjoyed it as well (especially the corn bread dipped in the pepper jelly that came with one of the appitizers).

Ehhh: Room was nice and big and it was very clean with respect to everything we would normally come in contact with. However, my computer fell behind the bench/extra bed thing, so I had to pull it out from the wall and it was pretty nasty back there (trash, crumbs, etc.).

Bad: The beds, and especially the pillows. I've heard this complained about a good bit and I thought people were just being picky. But they were really, really uncomfortable. If you are able to bring your own pillow, you might consider that. The funny thing is, I stayed at Pop Century last year and I don't remember those beds being as uncomfortable.

Weird. We were there at the same time and I had no problems with the transportation. I was using the East Depot though, so maybe that's it? It seemed the typical rotation was West -> North -> East -> South, so by the time it got to South it was full in a number of cases.

I did use the cabs once or twice to avoid any possibly missed meals for sure though. I wasn't going to gamble.

I think that was part of the problem. We were closest to the South Depot. It might have been different if we went to one of the other ones.
