Staying at AKL - crazy to visit Sea World?

We're staying at Poly 4 nights and AKL 4 nights starting 6/24. This will be our 4th Summer in a row to stay on property. We're kicking around the idea of spending one day at Sea World on day 6 while we're staying at AKL. Are we crazy to consider leaving Disney while we're paying premium prices to experience Disney 24/7?

I would appreciate our opinions.

Thanks in advance
Al

Seaworld is unique. It used to be a regular stop, until MGM and AK came along. Then there was just so much to do on property. Look at it this way, don't limit yourself. Get your Disney in. See how it goes. If you want to visit Seaworld, you can always just go. If you don't, stay with Disney. Since the early 90s, I pretty much think WDW has it all, and don't leave property. I feel cheated whenever we take that 1/2 day to go somewhere else, even out for a meal. While there are interesting things to do, the magic, the escape of it all, leaves when you leave property.

We went to SW last year for the day. (It was a non Disney trip.) They have a really nice coaster (probably better than the Disney Coasters although I havent ridden Everest yet). They also have a log flume ride very similar to SM but with different theming. (Splash is much better IMO.) I got to pet a sting ray and a dolphin in Sea World which was really neat and something you cant do in Disney. And the dolphin / shamoo shows are incredible. That being said would I leave Disney World to visit it? whether I'm staying at the Poly or the All Stars...no. But that's just me.

We took a day to visit Sea World on our 7 day trip. I had bought our tickets ahead of time, or else I don't think I would have gone. We lost about a half day of touring when my DS got sick on Wednesday, and missed a lot of Epcot:cry: . Went to Sea World Thursday, and flew home early Friday morning. We did go to Epcot Thursday evening when we returned from Sea World, but all I kept thinking that day while touring Sea World was "I wish we were at Epcot." My advice, play it by ear. Decide during your trip. If you get everything else in that you want to do, it might be fun.:)

We always have to visit Seaworld, it really is a beautiful park.
That sums up SeaWorld. :sohappy:

It isn't a theme park based on coasters and rides, its about the conservation of sea life and the healing of rescued sea life. (Manatees)

If you're having doubts about wasting one precious day at WDW then don't bother attending at SeaWorld. I mean, you've spent all that money on staying at the Poly and AKL - why waste a precious moment leaving your resort ??? If you were that bothered you'd have saved money at The All Stars Resorts and then you could go to SeaWorld.

I say go to SW. I haven't been to Sea World in about 12 yrs, plan to go during one of our trips in the future though.

During our 2005 trip, DH and I went to Disney and we hit all the parks and than just took a day to go through a few stores at Downtown(Christmas week -4 days we were there) In March of this year, we actually for the first time since 2001 just walked all around the World Showcase and checked out every shop. If tickets to SW were not that expensive, we probably would have gone there. In March I was there for 5 days and 3 months pregnant, we used our left over tickets from December which had 2 days on them. The rest of the time we just walked around the different resorts and took boat rides from the Swan to different places. We probably won't hit Disney again for a few years, since we will have a newborn this Christmas.

I say go for it!! The park is glorious and the shows are great. Don't miss Shamu, Clyde & Seamore or the Dolphins/False Killer Whale shows. 3 of my last 4 visits I have taken a day to go there. We typically get there when the park opens and are leaving around 5-6pm. Then back to the magic ~ either a park that is open late or downtown disney.

Yes, you are spending your money for disney, but SW isn't a "bad park" It is a nice, relaxing one-day maybe two day park. I love it, just walking around and such. Do it in the middle of your trip. If you are even asking about it, you might as well do it. You'll miss one day at disney; since you've been here before and are comming back, it won't kill you. So, after blabbering: Just do it. :sohappy:

Totally agree. You have come down for 4 years in a row, so why not take a day and see something outside the Disney gates. You do know it is okay to travel off property during your trip !!

I love Sea World and could easily spend 2 days there. Just keep in mind that almost everything is outside. Journey to Atlantis is great if you like flume rides and the little extra at the end ( I won't spoil the surprise if you don't know ). As a matter of fact my avatar was taken at Sea World !
