Status/future of the Hyperion

FWIW, Micechat said in their most recent update their sources are claiming that the Hyperion is being earmarked for future Marvel adventures. To me that means a fifth attraction for Avengers Campus.

So it's just going to sit there as an empty hulk for how long?

Like an Innoventions/Launch Bay abandonment measured in years? Or a Rocket Rods abandonment measured in decades?

At this point, they've likely lost most of the support staff needed to mount a large stage show. Which seems purposeful on TDA's part because it reduces labor costs immensely and shrinks the pool of higher-paid skilled labor on the payroll.

You can hire an 18 year old to be a cashier or a busboy or a Jungle Cruise Skipper in off the street in a matter of hours, every day of the week. But to hire a trained audio technician or a stunt choreographer or a Broadway stage director would take a lot more work, and a lot more money to get them in and working on an active project for the Hyperion.

If a Marvel attraction is going to replace the Hyperion, I hope that they at least attempt to blend the attraction into The Hollywood area. Not sure how they would pull that off exactly (maybe the Malibu hills with Tony Stark's mansion? A Downtown LA Chinatown area with a Shang-Chi adventure?).

In that event, I would assume that Hollywood Blvd would stop at the Backlot/eventual Avatar area. Everything beyond that, like whatever replaces Hyperion, would then become part of Avengers Campus and themed accordingly.

I think you're right, visually though I hope that they put in some effort to blend the areas. So when you look down Hollywood Blvd you're not staring at something completely out of theme like the Guardians tower.

And to Disney's credit this is something they try to do already, or at least think about. There are the Stark Motors billboards between Avengers Campus and Carsland. There are also Japanese road signs between Carsland and San Fransokyo. It's subtle.

Well Sunset Blvd, which is the view you're talking about, would at that point be part of Avengers Campus. So it wouldn't be something out of theme as it would be all Marvel related at that point.

What I was attempting to convey in my previous comments was my hope that the replacement for the Hyperion is an attraction that could work visually and thematically for both the Marvel and Hollywood Blvd areas. Mainly because that building is visible from Hollywood Blvd. I understand that a Marvel attraction would be part of the Marvel area.

I understand what you're saying. :)

I'm just saying that I don't think they would keep the "Hollywood" theme beyond that point, and instead theme it to something reflective of Marvel to make it fit in with Avengers Campus. So you wouldn't really be looking just directly at Guardian's Tower, but all the other stuff in the area themed to Marvel between Hollywood Blvd and current Avengers Campus.

The transition in this case would be, if the rumors are true, from Avatar to Avengers Campus.

While looking for Haunted Mansion photos just now, I saw in the Miceage update today that the Fantasyland Theater is still sitting closed and unused. They haven't even removed the Pixar Fest decor from the stage, it just sits there abandoned.

The same thing is true for the shuttered Hyperion Theater. Something tells me, as the calendar gets short on 2024, that we've just seen the quiet end to major live stage entertainment at the Disneyland Resort. Nothing was announced at D23 Expo for either venue. None of the plans for the 70th have mentioned either venue.

They are both abandoned and dead spaces now, joining other theaters like the Tomorrowland Theater and the Carousel Theater in the living graveyard of empty buildings. TDA has clearly made a purposeful decision to retreat from live stage entertainment, and I'd have to think it's for financial and labor cost reasons. That, or TDA has data that shows the substantial investment required for shows at the Hyperion or Fantasyland theaters provide little return on investment regarding customer satisfaction and/or as profitable attendance drivers.

None of the plans for the 70th have even been released yet. So we don't know what they have planned yet for entertainment.

The carousel is actually being used, just in the worst way imaginable. So I can see why it’s dead to you.

While Knotts has live entertainment most weekends. Hopefully they put a stage show in the Walter Knott theater this Christmas season. The Elvira Experience kinda sucked. We should have had a stage show or put the Hanging inside and make Krazy Kirk entertain during Haunt in the wagon camp.

Wild theory, Disney is reducing live entertainment slowly because Forward is a trojan horse for Westcot. There's where live entertainment will be in abundance.

The Fantasyland Theater plot could house a decent sized E ticket dark ride. Hopefully that is one of the things brought up at D23 2026.

It's been said that a Snow Queen ride was suppose to go there back when that movie was in pre-production. It was a boat ride through the Snow Queen's castle. It later became Frozen.

Well MC is still calling DLForward a "third park expansion", maybe wishful thinking on their part, but that would mean Westcot is not out of the realm of possibilities if true. ;)

Yeah that’s another thing that makes no sense. Why the heck are they calling the disjointed pieces of land on the other side of Disneyland Drive “a third gate.”
