Started to pack...

Started to pack and realizedthat my carry on is a day or 2 of clothes, and the rest is food. Poptarts, oatmeal, snacks for in the park, Anyone else bring lots of stuff with them? Were first timers, and are trying to save a bit of money on food. Are we the only crazy ones?

We are flying for the first time and wasn't sure if we could bring full boxes of entenmanns donuts and regular size cans of Pringles on our carry on bags. We leave in 35 days.

@Mainahman - Have a great time and make sure to do a trip report.

@EpicMickey - I like your idea of the Brita pitcher for $9.97 through Amazon. We've been planning to order a case of water through WalMart.com which is about the same price delivered.

Only 16 more days for us!!

16 days that's awesome :) I'm so jealous :) 109 for us.
The only downside of the brita pitcher is that a full pitcher is only good for a few glasses. So if you have a big family that may be a bit of an issue. But it filters fairly quick.

We are flying and it's not a problem bringing snacks in my carryon but what about water? I don't think you can have bottled water in your carryon but you can purchase it after you are through the terminal. Is that correct?

All i drink is water, never have drank soda or any of that stuff, for me its water, and the occasional milk, so ive been looking for every way not to buy water in the park etc, We were going to drive but from home ( maine) its a straight 24 hour drive, i wanted more days at the world :) i managed to talk my wife and DD into flying, and they have never flown, ive flown, and have to on occasion for work so im used to it. This could be an interesting travel portion of the trip :)

Try the Brita bottle it saves quite a lot for us.

I have one suitcase packed with snaks and breakfasts items. We know that we're not bringing any of that stuff home so that means we have a whole suitcase to bring souvieniers home in. We also ordered a few cases of drinks from Garden Grocer

We do the exact same thing (minus the drink order)!

If you're talking about Brita's, I usually put them in my checked in. Or if I'm not mistaken as long as its empty may have it in your carry on.. You need to double check though

Thanks, I am planning on taking 3 empty water bottles (Brita) in hopes to fill them and put them in the freezer in our room the night before to keep them nice and cold while we're at the parks.

Forgot to tell the thing I dislike about the bottles are two thing.. You have to seal it really tight otherwise it would spill when you squeeze it. Also since it uses filter and you have to squeeze it, it's not as satisfying as the regular water bottle especially if you're ver thirsty.

You are not crazy! Last year my 3 kids and I flew for a surprise trip (my husband was deployed and met us at Disney) to Florida and since we each could take a carry on I think I had 2 or 3 carry ons filled with snacks and other food that we would need, so pack as much food, snacks as you want. I did find out that taking snacks out of boxes and packing separately helped create more space for more snacks! :D
Thats exactly what i did! They are all in plastic bags, so we can even reuse the plastic ziplock bags on the way home for wet clothes etc, and tons of room for all the souvies!!

We fly so can't take a great deal with us. I always used to save space for park/brerakfast snacks, chips etc but we found we were taking most of them home so don't bother now. The DDP is plenty for us.

Yes, you may bring full boxes of food if you so desire...the exception are any type of liquids, even filled donuts (but Entenmanns doesn't make filled ones). FYI: the resorts sell full boxes of Entenmanns donuts, if you don't feel like carting them (they'll cost $2-3 more there though). We bring the snack-sized Pringles in our carry-on too!!

I wouldn't pack opened food products in your checked bags though, for fear of unwanted pests sneaking in to have a picnic...eek!

We stop at a grocery store and, even though we are on the dining plan with a free refillable mug, we still buy snacks, bottled water, and probably a cola and ice tea. AND I make a batch of homemade tollhouse cookies to bring along because my niece thinks its part of our "tradition."

I make "white trash" it's just started being something I that I made when we took long trips!

We always drive and have brought everything from a toaster to a sandwich grill to our own little fridge (before all the resorts started supplying them) for our room at Pop Century. The first year, we had the van FILLED with breakfast foods and snacks and bottled water and the likes. After that first trip, we started to pack less and less food as we discovered that we could just hit up the Sam's Club or Target just off property to buy all those things after we got down there and got all of our stuff unpacked. Boy, let me tell you, did that ever make it easier! The prices are pretty comparable to what we would have paid up here anyways and by doing it this way, it allows us to purchase items like a 1/2 gallon of milk or a small container of butter, and stuff like that, since we already had the fridge plugged in back in the room.

Nothing wrong with wanting to save a few dollars wherever you can so that you have more money for souvenirs! ;)

We almost drove, but the idea of spending 2 days in a car to do it sanely did not appeal to me, flying it will be, and i figure what we do bring for food wont come home with us, so that frees up plastic bags to be used for wet bathing suits or to segregate breakables in the carry ons on the way home :) Were first timers, so were probably bringing everything and the kitchen sink, but rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it ;)
