So you're comparing the BUILDING OF DISNEYLAND to some stars that nobody is going to notice under an icon that most people don't even like. Not even the same thing.

I'm relatively certain that one or two people will notice when the characters are in front of the stars.....

I think people will notice...and I think it will look nice at night since I'm guessing they will light up. I would not go so far as to suggest MOST people dislike the hat. Most people don't care one way or the other about the hat. It's just part of Disney World, and most people who are in the parks like Disney World.

If we have to keep the hat, I think this is a nice plus.

The same thing could be said about most of the landscaping, housekeeping, and general maintenence around the parks. That's sort of the point, paying attention to such minor details that may go unnoticed some of the time.
I feel very secure when Disney is willing to blow money on stuff like adding stars in the bushes. It's a good sign as far as I'm concerned.
I'm guessing they're trying to create a nicer background for picture taking during character meet and greets.
