News Starbucks at Walt Disney World to close tonight

I’m pretty sure that the WDW locations are considered franchise locations because they are staffed by WDW cast members. Locations in grocery stores are not closing like at Target because they aren’t “corporate locations”.
They're not really franchises per se. They're not even Starbucks. It's not the "Main Street, USA Starbucks." It's "Main Street Bakery... Proudly Serving STARBUCKS (R) Coffee."

It's a Starbucks, but Starbucks does very few actual franchises, they only really sell to big companies they can trust to run them like Disney or Universal, which each own their Starbucks locations.

That would make sense. The Disney Springs locations are actual Starbucks. The park locations are Disney owned and operated with Disney Cast Members.
Also you can earn and redeem reward points at Disney Springs but not in the parks.

They call them Licensed Stores and there are a lot: https://solutions.starbucks.com/our-platforms/licensed-stores

Yes, but you'll notice they are all in like supermarkets or in a Target. They are still very careful about licensed stores, compared to say, McDonald's or Subway franchises. You definitely were able to earn points at the stores in the parks, but not redeem them.

Visible and public training, however, does let current employees know that the company takes it seriously enough to lose some income over the couple of hours that the stores are closed and that, although you're welcome to whatever opinions you hold, racism isn't going to be tolerated at Starbucks.

I think THAT's the benefit of this - good employees will feel more supported in reporting racist behavior of their coworkers now that they know the company has their back.

Yeah, it's totally a publicity stunt. You don't implement new training by shutting down and having a one time only session. There's probably a huge number of Starbucks employees who can't work Tuesdays and simply won't be there. If they truly wanted this to be effective they would roll it out like every other kind of training program in every other company and have sessions over a week or two and ensure everyone goes.

Actually they are. they worked with the NAACP and other civil rights groups to implement a company wide change in policy that is supposed to be forever. sort of like my company with annual training.
the early closing today is really sort of a kick off that is supposed to let employees know what's going to be the procedure going forward

Have never been to Starbucks and have no plans to ever go They can train all they like IMO PR stunt. Now you can now use the bathrooms and spend as much time in Starbucks as you like and not purchase a thing just take up space ---great business move

That's always pretty much been the case. People sit there all day and use their WiFi, *maybe* nursing a single cup of coffee the whole time.

Why does it take 4 hours to tell people to "be nice to people"?

Ask them if they (a) want something to drink, or (b) if they need to use the restroom.

Because they’re going to come out with a new Unicorn-frenzy inducing- Frappuccino... but this time.. they’ll call it Squatters Frappucino. It will be all the rage. Hopefully it doesn’t taste like a Sweet Tart.

This new policy is so stupid. The stores are busy enough, and now they’re encouraging loitering. Sometimes I think I’m watching a movie instead of real life.

Starbucks is pretty brilliant. They aren't doing this to be better, they are getting LOADS of free advertisement for this! Bravo!!
This made me laugh since there is at least 1 Starbucks every 1.8 blocks in the developed world. “Honey, what’s the name of that little coffee shop shut down this afternoon?”

Well, all of the articles forgot to mention that in-store training has been going on since at least the early 2000s. Trust me, I’ve had my day wrecked when I couldn’t get my much needed latte. ;)
Why tell the public the whole story though?, better for the publication/channel to dramatize as much as possible.
