Star Wars Weekends - How busy are they, really?

I've never been to any before and I'm looking to go at one of the weekends this year. I'm not really interested in autographs or photo ops as much as just going for the Star Wars ambience and popping in the Studios for a bit to see the parade they have and possibly the fireworks.

Any ideas?

It is busier than a typical weekend, and this year, due to the opening of Star Tours II, it's expected to be absolutely packed. Operating hours are 8am to midnight - which is absolutely unheard of for the Studios.

Last year we went during week 3 and it was busy, not insane but busy. It really depends on what you are going for. If you are wanting just random Star Wars characters and to see the parade you will be fine but things like the Hyperspace Hoopla is always busy. The nice thing is word has been coming out that they are moving all events to the Hat Stage which will be really nice! Basically it is busy, not a fun day to just go and try to enjoy the park.

Master Yoda I am sure will have a better take on it all.

I have been ever year since 2004. I never do the autographs that you have to get there at 3am for me way too long. The parade is great and has been at 11:40 but get a spot early. The celebrity hosts will be in the parade as well. It will be most crowded of course near Star Tours especially this year with the new ride! This is where the stage is with activites all day long. Get a special times guide when you enter the park.
For those interested in characters:Chewbecca and an Ewok -can usually be found where the speeder bike is, Leia, Luke and sometimes R2D2 by Star Tours. Princess Leia Minnie, Jedi Mickey, Stormtrooper Donald and Darth Goofy have been to the left of the hat-we have gotten them all together, sometimes they alternate every 20 minutes. All the dark side characters are by the backlot area.
Overall, the park can be crowded but just by the ST ride. Lots of people dress up too. Can't wait to ride the new ST!

This will be nice if they move it here this year. Would they just move the Disney channel rocks show to NY street then? as I've seen them move the HSM there once temporarily.

I've been to DHS a few times during SWW, each time on a Sunday - and really, I didn't think it affected much of the park other than the Star Wars area of the park. That's where you'll notice the crowd more than anywhere else, obviously.

I concur with the sentiments already expressed. It's usually a bit busier than normal, but not insane. However, with the opening of Star Tours II, my hunch is that it will move into insane territory.

Star Wars weekend.

First week, its busy, its extremely busy. The old Star Tours would have hour long waits, the new one could possibly double that. If you want autographs, you have to get there at park open and RUN, seriously RUN your butte off to get the ticket, or fastpass to get in line, if there is a popular celebrity.

Its worth it though the first weekend, they parade of all the characters alone is worth it, once the Imperial March starts blasting, its complete goosebump city.

After the first weekend, its busy, but very manageable. Get there at park opening for the stormtroopers making fun of the crowd.

Jimmy Thick-Disney magic at its best!!!!!!!

:D I am a proud sister of a star wars nerd. He is 10. But still....

I also have my nerdy quirks, it just so happens to be in broadway, so we are all nerds here :D We come in peace..

I'm only joking of course. I used to be a Star Wars zealot myself. I still have some stuff (action figures, vehicles) which I'm still debating on whether or not to get rid of it. I used to love reading the expanded universe novels as well. Now...not so much...reasons is that I've grown up from it a bit, and the prequels and the CGI Clone Wars just spoiled my fandom for it. Sad Times.

We have hopper tickets so I'm only really going to dipping in and out probably. I just really want to see the parade with the characters. Is there not a fireworks show as well?

Nothing as far as the fireworks goes have been anything other then rumored. You might also want to check out the Hyperspace Hoopla, I think the highlight of the event! Check it out on youtube!

Star Wars Weekend

My family and I have been to Star Wars Weekends twice. My son (now 17) was in amaze when we went the first time. He was 10. It was busy, but the goal he wanted was to meet as many SW characters as he could and take pictures. we ended upp wiht many. We also made sure we watched the parade. Autographs from the stars were out of the question due to the lines.
One thing that we really enjoyed was the Storm Troopers walking across the entrance as we waited to get in. Their comical talk was entertaining.
He wants to go back, but due to our school year being pushed back, we have not been able to attend recently. :(
New characters (Storm Trooper Doanld, Darth Goofy, etc) would be a great additon to his photo album. I have also seen a photo of Darth Tater, but heard is rarely out these days.:
If you are a Star Wars buff, you have got to attend and live through the crowds.

Disclaimer: I enjoyed the original three movies. My husband is a bona fide Star Wars freak, or whatever they call themselves, who has read the novels, etc.

The parade was great. Fireworks are not tied to SWW. I would not stand in line for autographs; I might consider standing in line for Jedi Mickey and Leia Minnie, but not ridiculously long lines.

If you see the parade, I'm sure you will have enjoyed a good time at SWW.
