Anyone got any official info on the Star Wars Weekend on May 17th??

I'm a huge SW fan (coughdeathtojarjarcough) and I was just wondering if it would be worth my while to head down for the weekend. I've heard different "reports" - some say a few of the stars will be there - others say NO ONE will be there.

Any "official" info?? Anyone? Anyone? :slurp:

Keep on smilin'

Just in case anyone is actually interested... <looking around> :slurp: I spoke with Disney about the Star Wars weekend on May 17th. I was told that even in the Executive Offices of Disney, they didn't have much information about this weekend. What they did know was that there would be "no celebrities there - except for Chewbacca." Other than that, it would be a "much smaller event than in previous years."

That's all I got now. If anyone else gets any info, please pass it on!

Here's the Official Response from Guest Services.
STAR WARS: Episode II Attack of the Clones

Dates: May 17 through 19, 2002

During the weekend that Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones is released nationwide to theaters, the Disney-MGM Studios theme park will celebrate the film's opening, with additional Star Wars characters in the theme park, limited-edition pins available for fans and more Star Wars characters in the "Disney Stars In Motorcars" parade.

With our yearlong focus on the "100 Years of Magic" celebration, we will not hold a month-long Star Wars-themed event this year. Instead, our weekend event will enhance the "100 Years of Magic" celebration and give Star Wars movie fans the chance to mingle with more than 20, camera friendly, Star Wars characters and to purchase Star Wars-themed, limited release pins, available May 17-19 at the Disney-MGM Studios.

Everybody loves a parade and for this special weekend, more Star Wars characters will join Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in the "Disney Stars and Motorcars" parade, the new parade in the theme park that debuted as part of the yearlong "100 Years of Magic" celebration.

Finally, to be sure you fit in, have your face painted like one of the many Star Wars characters and then take a wild ride aboard "Star Tours", the flight-simulator attraction co-created by Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas.

Wow! I don't know why they're even bothering! A parade and some pins is not enough to get me to book a weekend trip! It's too bad, because I would definitely spend a LOT of money on Star Wars stuff.

Gee...for only "Chewbacca" [Peter Mayhew], why leave town? He's been a perrenial guest at DragonCon here in Atlanta...

Now, however, if they were able to release the names of the guests they've invited or gotten agreements from to attend the slight Disney soiree, it might be do-able.

Digital at AMC?

Does anyone know yet whether Episode II will be shown in the digital projection (not sound) format at AMC Pleasure Island 24? I assume it will, as they have one of the country's few digital projectors and showed the first one that way, but I just wondered....

If digital is available then I understand that it will be presented using that format. I would assume that the AMC would therefore present it in that format.
