Star Wars weekend - i don't get it

Don't knock it just because you think it is silly. Different people like different things. Some like trains, some like roller coasters, some like to climb mountains, others like fashion or classical music and some like to dress like characters from Star Wars or Star Trek. . What fun to wield a light saber and not feel like an idiot. The list of what people like is endless. How dull if everyone liked everything the same.

Think of it as more of an excuse to get together with other Star Wars fans. Disney is just giving them the space and making it "official." Disney contributes characters, an attraction, a themed area, and a show all related to Star Wars.

It doesn't have to be a shut down the park and fly in George Lucas to be an event.

It's for Star Wars fans and they seem to have a good time.

You really don't have to "get it." This is the same argument people have with why fans like us continue to go back to Disney again and again. We like it, so we do it.

So was at the parks again last week. Friday at Hollywood Studios and the start of the Star Wars weekend. I really didn't see what exactly Disney were offering. They had the characters Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, etc all around at various points for photo opportunities, you had Goofy, Daisy and co dressing up as Star Wars characters, there was an interview over at the Fantasmic seating area for an hour with some obscure past cast member who had a background scene. They had a stage set up infront of the Chinese theatre where they would hold some quizes with kids, and finally a DJ to play dance music that was not Star Wars related.

The only redeeming feature was the fantastic fireworks at the end of the night - similar to the fireworks you see over at the Magic Kingdom. They were excellent.

Yet the place was packed out, with grown men in their Star Wars tshirts, grown men with lightsabers, it was all rather tragic at times to see.

I just didn't quite get it. I didn't see exactly what Disney bought to the table?!

If you don't get it, you probably never will :)

There is also the parade, specialty stores, specialty food, talking storm troopers (which was better when they were on the roofs!), and star wars music playing all day long. Not to mention that everyone who is willing to geek it up in their favorite star wars attire.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

My trolldar went off hard core when I read this post. If you don't get it stay away from DHS for the next 4 weekends. Also Ian McDiramid wasn't some background actor by the way.

No
I'm actually not a big Star Wars fan & even I really enjoyed my experience this weekend at SWW. We were walking back by Toy Story Mania and there were a couple of characters (I didn't recognize them, so I'm assuming they were secondary characters) just walking around and letting people take selfies with them, which was really cool because as we know most characters always have a character attendant with them and a single file line in front of them. Riding Star Tours was way more hype, because our cabin was filled with hardcore Star Wars fans. We saw the "Stars of the Saga" talk show and it was incredibly entertaining, especially the pre-show. The Storm Troopers were making jokes about the hat being gone and it was all pretty fantastic.
I think it's important that Disney does something for Star Wars fans, because it's a huge fandom that's very under represented in the parks. Sure, we have Star Tours, but other than that, SWW is the only time that there's really much else to do in regards to the franchise.
And as far as OP saying "it's tragic", I think it's just the opposite. I think it's so awesome to see people, young and old alike, getting to live their dreams of being a Jedi or meet Darth Vader...dreams that they've probably had since they were little kids. It's what Disney is all about :)

No, it's not tragic to see fans celebrating their favorite stuff. What does Disney bring to the table? The Star Wars characters, Star Wars-themed events, stars of the movies meeting fans, and special announcements and parties for fans.

Every post I see from you is flamebait. You are a troll. Please don't troll.

Well That sir, is what the "Report Bad Post" button is for.

The force is within me :hilarious:
Had the great opportunity to experience my first SWW on May 15 this year. Yes, it was hot and crowed but all worth it.
Great food at Rebel Hangar, unique limited edition merchandise at Darths Mall and much more. Got great photos and got lots of goodies. They had specialty cocktails to die for as well.

Food pics are from the Rebal Hangar and cupcake from the catering co.

Definitely recommended !!!!
