I experienced something similar.

In our case, we were flying into Orlando that day (day before Thanksgiving) and had park reservations at Hollywood Studios. I woke up and got a boarding group and just was crossing my fingers would land and get over there in time. Had boarding group 36, which would've worked out perfect until our flight got delayed. By the time we got to the park, it had been roughly 2.5 hours since our window expired. No big deal, it was a long shot anyways.
When we got into the park, we just happened to walk passed a GET umbrella with no line, so I just asked really quick if there was any sort of "backup" group people like us could potentially be in at the end of the day (fully anticipating a no), and he just said "oh no problem!", scanned our bands (all 5 of us), and said we could go anytime before close.

So, idk if that was just some "Disney magic" or if that is standard procedure. I would assume it is contingent on how busy the park is (although it was pretty busy that day all things considered) and, frankly, probably your attitude. Lol

I had a similar situation. My boarding group was called right before my dinner reservation at Beaches & Cream. We went and missed our window. They let us go in when we explained that we were at a reservation.

Made my first attempt at securing a boarding group today from the office. Glad I did! I didn't realize what a process it would be and would surely have been frustrated had I waited until the day were were visiting the parks. Fingers crossed I get good enough at it between now and Spring Break to actually get us IN! 🤞🤞

My girlfriend was at the park today, she told me all the rides are back to normal operating standard with filling all the ride vehicles to capacity, slinky had every row filled, Mickey and Minnie had every row filled, rise had all the vehicles and seats were filled, tower of terror only had the middle row empty but top and bottom were full, rocker and roller coaster was filled every row.

Slowly but surely things are coming back to normal. Hell at least she got boarding group 73! With a savi’s and ogas reservation back to back, even smugglers run was no longer each cabin per family anymore

Feels like they are getting ready for the holiday crowd and they know it, I can see it too, 35% capacity but giving them all a chance to experience rise of the resistance at least if they keep up this pace.

Things changed from one vehicle per family to one row per family to everyone together now

Well to be fair, both Rise and MMRR installed plexiglass between every row in the last month or so, so they are able to fill every row with one party. The only new thing are the rollercoasters and such being done the same thing to, apparently.

Dark rides have horizontal barriers with the exception of tower of terror which are vertical.

rollercoasters don’t but they used to give you ample space per party, per car, now it’s back to pre Covid

They reported slinky only but rocker n roller coaster was the same way.

When I did Mickey and minnies runaway railway about a month ago it was one party per car including rise of the resistance, now thanks to the horizontal barriers, all rows are filled.

which goes to mention that those windows are filthy, she took a picture and that glare and those cleaning stains were the main focus 🤣
