It delays you slightly but I wouldn't recommend splitting your groups up at all. That leaves even more room for error. I'll be a group of 4 Saturday which is the most I've gone with in the post first come first serve days. What I've done is "color code" my family to the loudest, brightest character that will help in the identification process. If you have people with other last names, this could be even more helpful.

As referenced in prior posts, there is a “Select All” button, right? Will be there in 2 weeks with a party of 9 and I’ve cleaned up my MDE friends list so it’s just those 9.

So if I'm a party of one, does my name automatically become selected when the screen pops up or do I still have to waste valuable seconds checking my name?
;)
It’ll already have you selected! My only ever issue is one time I was not even listed and only showed my friends. App error, I suppose. I had to restart and go back in so I got group 57. Just make sure you glance to the top before confirming and make sure you’re selected but that’s only happened once to me.

I agree with everything DCBaker has said.

What I would add is that this is a "learn as they go" experience and they are constantly changing the way to access this ride. When it first opened, you could get a boarding group as soon as you arrived and now it's not until official park open. Millennium falcon recently went to FP. Park hours have changed constantly. Time to get back to the ride after your BG was called just changed yesterday for some people from 2 hour window to 1 hour. MMRR is opening on March 4 and that could prompt some other changes. Disney just began surveying park guests on the best mode to access the ride so all of this could change at any time.

This ride has only been open for less than 2 months and already experienced a ton of changes. Your trip is still 3 months from now so a lot could change between now and then.

I guess the point is, I would monitor these forums and Disney's own websites for any changes as they seem to be happening quickly and without any notice is some instances.
Thank you all for your input.
One follow up question- if I tap int say Epcot on a hopper, would I still be able to join a boarding group? I ask because people are using LTE instead of WiFi so how does it know which park you are in. Unless, does Disney have small cells in their parks?

You have to tap into DHS to join a boarding group - not any park.

It knows where you are so you have to be in Hollywood studios

So it’s using GPS. Interesting

If you noticed any time you’re in the app it knows what park you’re in automatically. Because if you scroll to the top it shows a picture of the park and the wait times for the attractions.

Same with the Play Disney app. Heck even when I’m in DHS andI try to use the GE Datapad, it tells me I’m out of range.

Adding an additional 1/3 of the days average attendance will 100% make it feel like New Year's relative to what it normally feels like

what?! adding 10,000 people making the attendance 40K is nothing like what New Years, a day that sees between 70-80K people.
