I tried the open from scratch method at 6:59:59. My son did refresh method starting at same time. My son refreshed twice and got BG 8 before my app even opened.

Ride is still down, holding on the ride. No evac yet.
I guess I'm still confused what the "refresh" method is. As you just constantly pulling down the app the refresh the screen or switching back & forth between the MDE Home screen and find out more tab?

Click on the Find Out More button

Then click on My Status (you can swipe down to refresh after you hit on My Status).

While I don’t think there is a 100% guaranteed way to get a good boarding group as some are in the app prior to 7am and play around and get one, myself and others never open app until 7am. (See my prior posts 2 pages back)

Now from what I’ve seen people post, those who are in early and refresh app and bounce between screens, when it works, they get a good boarding group. BUT you may not get anything by being early and that will cost you even more time.

Going right at 7am, seems safer and more consistent (based on my results) even if you are not getting a sub 10 group. @disneygeek90 has with this method. I will consistently get between 10-30.

So live dangerously or go steady/guaranteed 🤩🤩🤩

Right. The difference of group 12 or group 27 is miniscule all things considered. The difference from 27 to 92, not so much.

I had 39 with the "refresh" method. Was that terrible? Obviously not. But with the app open at 7 I have group 31, 17, 18, 57, 20, 8 and to me seems "safer."

Is that true? Before we got it straightened out, two members of my party had BG 103, but it wasn’t implied that was a backup group - at least not that I saw. This was at 7:01 or so...

I don't think they state what the cutoff number is until the finish distributing all groups. (Though I may be mistaken. I'm not an early riser at home, so I haven't been in the app during BG distribution since my trip last month)

I have been reading some articles that this is very flawed system and lots of people have been complaining. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Any system is going to have people who favor it and those who dislike it. We've seen plenty of people explaining the drawbacks with this method - and a lot of people defending it for its benefits over other options. I think it would be very difficult to describe it as "very flawed". It's fairly reasonable and equitable and benefits Operations as well given the ride's unreliability.

The post right above you is case in point as to why I don't feel like standby is a viable option right now.

I'm travelling in May so there is a likelihood that this process may still exist. I noticed that from the time from launching the app to getting to the home screen is ~ 5 seconds. From a timing standpoint, do you launch the app at 7:00:00 AM or time it so that the homepage lands at that time, and then click into the "Find Out More"? (meaning clicking on the app icon at 6:59:56 (ish)?

Thanks!

Been stuck on BG 40 for a while. I’m at 43. Is there going to be a long wait right away if/when it comes up?
It shouldn't be worse than any average wait. Typically the closer you are to the number right after it comes back up, the better.

I actually had been waiting until about 7:00:02 my first few times. I got a little greedy and opened at 6:59:58 yesterday and got BG 8. I wouldn't open more than 2-3 seconds before personally. You have a lot more to risk with going too early and needing to restart again than waiting 3 extra seconds.

Is the 2-hour return window really gone, or is it just for the first handful of boarding group calls? I've got some group members trying to plan their trip, and the return window is kind of important to them.

No. Someone stated earlier they were given a 2-hour return window when they were called around past 8am. It just seems the first handful of groups that are given the new 1-hour window, which makes sense.

Thanks for the quick reply! And I agree...the early boarding groups it makes sense to have the short window so they aren't running the ride virtually empty for too long.

Wanted to drop my experience from yesterday in this thread. We used the "refresh" method above and while it worked really well on Saturday (group 15), it DID NOT work yesterday and never gave the "Join Boarding Group" option. Once we backed out of the screen it worked but we were given group 96 (backups were 97 and above)

Our group was called around 6:00pm and when we got to the queue around 6:30, CMs were quoting a 1.5 hour standby line to get in. Here's the trouble: despite this, they began calling backup groups really quickly and kept bringing more people into the queue at the expense of non-backup groups. The entire outdoor queue was full and it even extended past the turret. IMO, they should wait to call backup groups until closer to the time the return window ends for non-backups unless the line is manageable. Having people wait 11 hours then dumping them in a 1.5 hour standby line defeats the entire purpose.

I wasn't able to ride because I had a flight to catch but I talked to GR and they gave me a fastpass for a future date when I'll be back in Orlando.
