Speculative, but do these 14 acres seem likely?

I really don't think they are going to touch the Muppets area...

I can't see them bumping it up right to Echo Lake. To me from the look of the concept art, you have the Millenium Falcon where the walker is now at the entrance to Star Tours and the other side where the Ewok village queue is you have the new exterior that leads you into the new land which would utilize backstage areas.

I just can't see them not using the backstage areas but who knows. I don't think it would look right if the demo'd certain things for it. It unfortunately could fit well into the Muppet area which worries me.

On Twitter, DisneylandToday said the location for Star Wars Land would be in the Big Thunder Ranch Area (which I hope means Toon Town is safe). Now if the WaltDisneyWorld Twitter account would give away such information.

Oh and I guess this breaks my 3 year lurking status lol

All the Disney vs UNI in this thread is amazing. UNI is what it is and Disney is what it is. If your hitting Orlando with a couple of kids aged 3 and 5. Disney is your place. Character meals, dark rides, MNSSHP.

The same vacation with a 13 and 15 year old...well then UNI will get some of your time and money. The thrill rides, HH, Mardi Gras, Potter, etc.

They are both great parks and I enjoy both.

Disney is now going after some of UNI's market share. There aren't many 2 year olds that know what an Avatar or a Star Wars is. But they know who Sophia, Anna, and Olaf are. And as Avatar and Star Wars sequels get released over the next 10 years the 11-16 year old market now dominated by UNI will lose pace against Disney. A 13 year old is not going to get especially excited about an Elsa meet and greet. But that same 13 year old will get excited about walking around Pandora, or going to a Star Wars Weekend (which will probably be off the charts once the SW Land opens)

Look the reality is that people will go on Vacation and do what their kids want to do (for the most part) especially if you are visiting a theme park. Disney, for those who have kids 1-11, can't be beat. When those kids hit their teenage years, they want the thrill rides, they want an older (from an age perspective) park. They outgrow Disney.

Disney is now saying to that crowd "Hey. We have things for you, too."
The fact that us .... The parents.....like or dislike what Disney is doing is completely irrelevant.

Disney makes their money through kids. Period. Most of us all visited Disney as kids. Our parents took us, and spent their money gladly. As we now have kids of our own, we take them and spend our money so they can interact with Princesses, and take pictures with characters they see on TV. When they in turn have kids...guess where they are going. UNI will never get the family with a 3 and 5 year old. Disney will. And UNI knows this. They target their efforts towards teenagers and a bit of an older crowd. Now Disney is targeting toward that older crowd as well.

Considering Star Wars is being called an 'expansion' I'd find it hard to believe it won't be extended into backstage and the parking lot. I know they called New Fantasyland an 'expansion' too and it really wasn't, but they really should have it be a true expansion. There's demo and prep work either way they go though.

With Toy Story having the rides they will and Star Wars, and the other rides DHS already has, it's definitely the little thrill park that could.

It's 14 acres in DHS and DL and certainly doesn't include Star Tours in DL. Star Tours is getting updates this year and won't be part of any longterm construction. So logic would say...?
I would logically say they are building around it with walls galore as we saw in the phased opening of New Fantasyland.

ditto. When I think about Pandora and Star Wars, ... YAWN. I just have no interest whatsoever. I've tried to get into it, but I'm a Disney nerd, not a sci-fi nerd. Toy Story area sounds ok, but it appears to be Universal-ish.
I still wonder why they call it " pixar land" if its only stuff from toy story.

my distain for California grows....
I always wonder.. both plans for both parks will be identical? or they will have variations? different planets? or different stuff?

I'm still scratching my head at the timeline for this to be complete. Well... I get that we haven't heard an official opening yet but with the last of the new trilogy coming out in 2019, it seems awfully crazy not to have these in place before that last movie is released.

It depends on your personal feelings about stilted dialogue, overcomplicated screenplays, wooden acting, and gaping plot holes. ;)
you forgot " and political/religious commentaries" .

I don't think most people who are mentioning it are claiming it's "demise" (maybe a few crack heads, but not most), I think it's more about "finally, Disney is doing something to compete with Universal" instead of sitting around and doing relatively nothing.

I agree on this, but some are already on the " lol universal is doomed" camp. I mean.. seriously?
