The problem is their new movies are frankly not very good. At all. We have been tiptoeing around this for 5 years scratching our collective heads.

The one movie with good Star Wars moments is the “black sheep” that Kennedy outwardly despises.

This seems to the be the week of “concentrate on tone when the subject isn’t going your way”

I’m sure all will be forgotten and arrogant defense will set back in soon.

On the land

@wdisney9000 had the absolute best explanation for the struggles I’ve seen.

They built this “caught in the middle”. It’s absolutely not canon/hardcore enough for the Star Wars diehards and junkies...but too “sci fi” for casual park goers and maybe even Disney devotees.

That’s the best argument I’ve seen in 3 months of daily trench warfare on this
I am no Star Wars fan or a casual park goer but I would not say I am a Disney diehard ,and I find the land find , I just think it needs more.

Generally speaking...I would agree
When I went on MF in early August they where not running all the turables and the frist time I went on it ,it ended early
Disneyland’s were working fine when I rode it...25-35 minute waits. Hyperspace mountain was 60-75...but it had akbar so I completely understand 😉

They half opened the land. I'm sure they are expecting a repeat of this in Dec. I am too.
That’s not how it works in theme parks

The opening would be the crush.

This “wait till ROTR” thing is something Disney is telling themselves and being bolstered by ardent Disney fans on sites such as this.

Remember that the majority of daily customers are not Disney diehards, plan their vacations far in advance, and wouldn’t bother to google the details of things such as construction delays In one ride in one of four parks in Orlando.

The lands are not “failures”...but they are far from being declared “successes” at this point.

The movie in December is now carrying a larger burden that Disney didn’t foresee: to drive people to the parks, it needs to reignite a passion that seems to have dulled.

It’s something to watch for

First off, full transparency, when you first came here you drove me nuts. Now you're one of my favorite posters. But I'd disagree on some of your points. I think they purposely stagger the openings of attractions. Like why isnt Mickey open yet? Cause it doesn't need to be yet. If they could ride this first wave of SWGE opening until its "time" to release a hound, then that's what they will do. Its Strategy. Especially, resort wide, EPCOT will soon be in dust soon. It's a complete picture. Sorry for they long paragraph ;)

Yeah...I tend to do that 😉

But here’s what I “do”:

I think about my hypotheses...I don’t randomly get a rise out of people for yucks.

My belief is fundamentally good people respect that...even if we don’t agree.

I also don’t make it personal...trying my best to avoid the stuff I know I just can’t be productive with...like adults talking about “magic”. I try - at least.

Mickey just isn’t ready...but I could see them phasing things in. The reality is bob’s retiring and he wants to charge all of us a fortune for 2-3 more years.

So having a “gap” between 2019 opening and the 2021 wdw anniversay year and openings would create a soft year where they’d have to discount.

I think they still will...but I can see a deliberate plan there.
I still can't fathom THAT many people are holding off until Rise of the Resistance opens. Most of the general public is not intensely following this land. They probably don't even know what ride they do have let alone the fact they're supposed to have two.
No...you can make that argument in Disneyland.
With both AP numbers and them doing stupid ticket policy for the opening summer...
But not wdw.

DVCers and Florida residents slide their travel around...
The rest do not. People in the Midwest don’t “slide weeks”...they set a target and stick to it. It’s not “That easy” like this board is making it seem.

These are the people NOT doing their 27th trip report during a hurricane 😳

They also are the bulk of Orlando travelers.

Some people will show back up for the new ride. But a mass crunch?

It’s the holiday season anyway...the rooms will already be full. It best be...and that has nothing to do with ROTR.

As a local who was there at at 4am with the rest of the masses, I don’t see the absolute need at this point to have tons and tons of stormtroopers and other roaming characters/entertainment at this moment in time. Would I like it? OF COURSE.

But with the amount of people in the land, the whole area is full of life and energy. Having more cast members hogging up the pathways or droids zooming around would be a bit of a cluster.

So yeah Chapek slashed the budget, probably not thinking of this scenario. But it doesn’t hurt the land at this time.

And it’s not like they cheaped out on the attraction(s) that caused then long term damage. Adding live entertainment is an easy and simple fix whenever they feel the need to spend the $$$ on it.

Except they did cheap out on attractions. Not only was the roaming live entertainment cut, but a dinner theater restaurant that was supposed to be the primary feature of the Oga’s facility as well as an entire attraction that would’ve added kinetics to the land. Read this if you want to know exactly what went down. https://www.micechat.com/233418-miceage-disneyland-rumor-update-promising-the-moon/

DON'T read all of the threads on WDWMagic about it thought. That will make you cry. And drink.

Though @TP2000 is taking drink orders.

All these rumors spiral out of control...people get excited and overzealous. Many wear name tags or talk to people that do (who of course talk out of turn often)...

But usually there is fire behind most smoke.

I think they have “promised big” on every new land in the Iger era...and WDI was “reassured” after Eisner that “creativity was back”...

And indeed it is to a degree...but the pencilneck hatchet men get ahold of every grand vision and whittle away without pause.

Remember NFL? The consensus was that staggs fought for the mine train...put his neck out for it. Bout 2 years later he was pushed out for not being a ruthless enough accountant. The two aren’t directly related...but it goes to patter of mentality.

Just one thing that points the way.

I think Star Wars is no different...dream big, then get regulated.

I meant the threads around the Al Lutz article and the subsequent drama :p

I did smugglers run today. Ran over with friends to ride it while the crowds were low. The land is impressive but I was rushing through and didnt take time to explore. We did the single rider which was lame for two reasons. First, you miss the entire preshow so no Hondo or anything. It's literally a 10-15 min wait then you board.

Second, by default you become the engineer. It's possible you can luck into a gunner role if a party of 3 is in line but it seems very unlikely. Engineer is definitely the lamest role possible and I can certainly see how the experience changes immensely even being pilot or gunner vs engineer. The ride is cool but I wasnt blown away. I'm a big star wars fan so I loved the little queue I experienced as well as being in the falcon but I'll definitely wait next time to avoid missing out on the whole experience.

I think a lot of people will probably think the ride didnt quite blow expectations away, but its still pretty fun and for a "secondary" ride it's a hell of a lot better than the boat ride in Pandora or the alien ride in TSL. That being said, RoTR has a lot to live up to IMO. It better completely blow Harry Potter away.

Engineer does suck...

I had lead pilot on my first run and gave up another spot on the second. Engineer stinks and gunner isn’t better. 4 of 6 seats are kinda blah.

It’s a well built land...but needs to have at least one more solid big attraction and probably some unique food draw to get in the range of what universal has spent 10 years expanding.

If Disney sits...its bad philosophy. Especially since a new 10 billion dollar ish park is coming

I'm not proud of this, but I read the entire thread about this in the Disneyland forum. I only skimmed and hopped around in the WDW forum though. And yes, I am taking drink orders. I imagine the execs in TDO will need a drink or two after this lackluster opening weekend, once the hurricane blows through.

In the Disneyland forum I recently detailed my brush with greatness when I stood thisclose to Tony Baxter at the new Bristol Farms in Yorba Linda two days ago. Can you imagine the wildly famous Tony Baxter and underwhelmingly infamous TP2000 standing right next to each other at the butcher's case at Bristol Farms??? I even got a semi-creepy photo of him. It was the absolute perfect end to an absolutely silly and bizarre summer.

Who could have guessed that Star Wars Land would flop in Anaheim, and then just sort of glide to a short landing in Orlando, while Star Tours and Tower of Terror become walk-ons? Let alone the surprising news that I have been ghost writing Al Lutz articles for decades and am responsible for the overthrow of Michael Eisner and Bob Iger's rise to power? At this point I don't even know what to ask Santa for Christmas because this year has already brought so many wonderful gifts. 🎅

I sat in all three rows over three different rides in one evening back in June. I think it depends on who you are riding with. When I sat in back as the Engineer, I was across from a sullen Canadian teen who just stared at her phone the entire time. So I just sat there too and didn't even bother pushing buttons, but instead watched the cabin and screen and observed how the ride system worked, which was actually more interesting than the actual attraction.

After three rides, I'm good for quite a while for that Falcon ride. I could go at least a year without riding it again, if not longer. I still don't even know what Coaxium is, or why I should care, and I certainly have no emotional attachment to it.

it's also worth noting for people that haven't been, the land itself is really big. Hogsmeade is miniscule in comparison. People thinking the crowd sizes would be as large looking on pics as that - we aren't comparing like for like here. There are a TON of people in GE. There's no question RotR will have an impact though, with even greater crowds.
When I was in Disneyland on Friday and Saturday evening the week before last, GE was heaving with people - extremely busy. Yet MF was still only 50 mins to an hour. It turns riders around really quickly.

Yes GE is really big and while the land itself is really nice ,I feel the land would benefit with street performers ,and a TS .
