Here's another view of the SW Land construction Constance.

The dirty box looking thing that has pipes between the walls in the middle of this picture is used for trench safety. They use a crane to set these in an excavated trench as shoring walls to keep those working inside the trench safe from dirt collapsing onto the workers. They use these to run pipes in a trench and allow for inspection. When work is completed, they are pulled out and the dirt is back filled into the trench. It's an OSHA worker safety requirement of course.

I asked for that. Most of my questions have been answered. But behind the white pickup truce appears to be some excavation I can't think of a reason for. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

If my assumption is correct that the truck is sitting on the same grade as the proposed river bottom, then the excavation behind it is a trench to run telecom/electrical conduit under the new ROA path to connect the two precast utility manholes (the ones with rectangular tops) on either side of the river path. This would also account for the abundance of grey PVC pipe pictured on site as well.

As an engineer this is my favorite part of the contstruction process. After the initial clearing and demolition you can really get a feel for the project and watch everything fall in place from the ground ( and in this case below) up.

It is kinda scary that I knew what a couple of those things were from working construction in HS, some 30+ years ago.

I love it. Your contributions to the discussion are, um, very constructive.

The two on either end look like utility vaults, concrete rooms that house gas, water or power controls. The vault gets buried so it's out of the way but workers can access the equipment through a manhole.

Bingo.

Judging by the placement of some the foundation framing going in (furthest from camera), what we are seeing is the beginning of construction of the Fantasmic! Secret Lair (barge storage) that will be hidden in a cave under the train trestle along the northern edge of the Rivers of America.

Oh right. Makes sense because the permits for a "marina" were recently issued.
