TOMORROWLAND HISTORY
THE FUTURE'S PAST
Tomorrowland 1955
Opening with the opening of the park in 1955, Tomorrowland was one of Walt’s key lands. When the land opened, it was set in the year 1986 with futuristic ideas such as flying to the moon.
Tomorrrowland 1967
By 1966, attractions were, unfortunately, becoming outdated already. Their attempt to combat that came with their first “New Tomorrowland” in 1967. This included the Monorail, The PeopleMover, Adventures Thru Inner Space, and more.
Tomorrowand 2055, the future that never was
In 1995, the next attempt at new Tomorrowland was taken. The initial idea was “Tomorrowland 2055” making Tomorrowland take place in the futuristic year of 2055. This new idea would be focused around the extraterrestrial life including the Alien Encounter attraction being built. However, due to the initial failure of Disneyland Paris, Tomorrowland 2055 lost funds that led to a different new Tomorrowland instead.
Tomorrowland 1998
This new Tomorrowland brought the closure of many Tomorrowland classics including The PeopleMover, Mission to Mars, Circle-Vision 360, and Captain EO. The PeopleMover was replaced with the questionable Rocket Rods while Circle-Vision 360 was replaced with the Rocket Rods queue. Captain EO was replaced with Honey, I shrunk the Audience and Mission to Mars was replaced with Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port. Inexplicably, all of Tomorrowland got a “bronze” paint job over top of that classic Tomorrowland white.
With minor changes here or there (including the white paint job coming back and the Rocket Rods closing), Tomorrowland has remained mostly the same since the 1998 update.
