Greetings all from the geek labs
little follow up on the Stanley Cup visit
Hundreds of Guests and Cast Members turned out to see the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup at Downtown Disney Marketplace on May 25.
The historic trophy (see the May 24 article below for historic details about the trophy) appeared for two hours near Team Mickey's Athletic Club before heading to Tampa, where the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning are battling the Calgary Flames in the Stanley Cup Finals.
A queue line stretched past the Ghiradelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop as fans waited for their turn to pose for photos with what many consider the most storied prize in sports.
Even Mickey Mouse showed up for the spectacle, posing for a photo with the famous trophy.
The appearance continued the cup's long tradition of being "the trophy of the people," traveling the world to be enjoyed by fans, rather than sitting in a museum display.
As part of that tradition, each player on the Stanley Cup-winning team possesses the cup for a day. Through the years, players have taken the cup to talk-show appearances, enjoyed various libations from the cup and even used it to serve French fries. The cup, however, is far from abused. In fact, the cup travels in its own first-class airplane seat and benefits from a team of experts who travel with the trophy to offer protection.
