I see TWDC recruiting Jeff Bezos more so than anyone with Amazon Studios already picking up some award winning hit shows and Amazon becoming a huge thing, I can see the board using his technological advances to their benefit. IT would also be a win for all of us because every single negative complaint about Amazon from a customer goes directly to his inbox or so it has been said.

Disney just signed a big contract with Google cloud services I believe

Hey, my daughter is 21. If things don't work out with her current boyfriend... ;)

I'm smelling a new opportunity for WDWMagic...a dating service. ;)

"Have you been searching for that magic and Happily Ever After? Want to find that soul mate who is as obsessed with everything Disney as you are? Then join WDWMagic's new service, WDWMagicHarmony. And find that perfect person to Disney Bound with forever."

What does she know about being a player in the movie and TV industry or destination resorts?

I don't think any of that's as important as letting the various departments do their thing and setting a direction and tone that is of the long term benefit to both shareholders and consumers, and being patient that everybody wins if quality is the business plan.

The biggest problem Disney has faced in recent years is doing everything to please next month's shareholders, doing nothing for the long term. Facebook under Sandberg has acted the opposite - they build for the long term, patient that profits will come from quality, are constantly shipping improvements, and funnily enough they haven't crashed and burned on Wall Street but despite a few rocky patches have actually come out well.

If you look at WhatsApp, they didn't do a Disney park tickets and look at the annual price fee and think 'gee it's been a buck for five years, let's make it 1.50', instead they decided to abolish it completely. Financially stupid in the short term, but wise for the long term growth of the company.

Sandberg seems to care about her companies and be willing to play a long game in the name of quality. If that cures Disney of it's Wall Street obsession, then once that's dealt with everything else will be a breeze to fix.

God, this is so irritating! I'm trying to stay positive as I can and hope for a new and better CEO to come, but a lot of you are being so cynical and have trust issues that you guys keep passing judgement very quickly. I mean, Anne Sweeney is one thing and I don't know much about Bob Chapek, but I think we're getting a bit too cynical about it. And just for that, I can't decide which person is a perfect CEO of Disney to make Disney better again. In fact, I'm on nobody side and I can't criticize people that I know about. So, I need to hear more information about them first before passing judgement. I'm sorry if I'm overacting, but I'm just nervous about this.

How do the Pixie Dusters explain the fact WDW is run like it is going out of business tomorrow? Just wondering ...
Not to imply I know how Burbank and Orlando do things, but here in the Ohio Valley, you typically see a going out of business sale prior to a business closing its doors. I try to wait for the 70% Off to trigger a visit.

I think most of us have a fairly good idea of the skill set an outstanding Disney CEO should possess. And are dismayed that the current crop occupying the top suites lack some of those skills. And are speculating about those we think who possess more of those qualities as a successor to Iger. That the #2 guy, who for all appearances looked like the successor to the CEO, suddenly leaves after only one year and with a 30 day notice, no less, means there's trouble in River City....

That being said, I suspect there are about a dozen individuals members of the BoD might consider and probably only a handful who would be serious contenders for the job. And the BoD members probably know most of them, either through other business contacts or personally.

I've always thought of CEOs at this level to be somewhat inbred like the old European royal families.

+1. I'm only 26 and even I'm appalled at "the kids" and the way they use technology. Walt Disney World should be at the opposite end of the spectrum from "teenager with headphones and toddler with iPad at the family meal."

I am 26 and a technology teacher and I appalled at the kids in their need for technology. They are missing their life by living theirs through social media.

I agree the analogy is weak.

But calling him a M&A genius is laughable. You couldn't/wouldn't have done the same thing(s) if you had access to billions of shareholder $$$? I don't even like Marvel and I still would have pulled the trigger on that and certainly on Pixar and Lucas. And really, who here would call either of us geniuses?

Bob isn't either. Spending other people's money is easy. Just ask all the O-Town fanbois and Lifestylers living on the money of parents, ex-significant others, family, the government etc ... if you give me your money, I'll spend it. I'll even spend it wisely!
:)

Genius is absolutely an over-expression. Although if you had to give him a credit- it is absolutely here. Pixar almost assuredly wouldn't have happened without him. Likewise, his previous relationship with Lucas gave him a very strong in-road there, and an argument could be made that without that relationship (Giving Lucas 2 seasons of a miserable series on ABC when all of ABC just wanted him to have 1). Likewise, he essentially despised NBC/Universal for shredding and editing his first film and openly has disdain for them. George specifically mentioned he and Iger's relationship and the handling of the Pixar acquisition as the primary reason that Iger and Disney were the only people he seriously considered selling Lucas too. George is a weird, finicky guy who hold grudges. Marvel I've heard nothing of that gave him an in-road. Sounds like a monkey could have done that deal using Other peoples money, as you mentioned.

The guy is a tool, a numbers guy, and a schlup- but he did have some meaningful relationships in the right circles (I think that goes without saying when you're CEO of a major corporation).

Please don't look at my praising of those few actions as me liking Iger. Can't stand the guy and will celebrate the day he is gone. Too bad it isn't this June :(

But only if my Prime membership would then include free two day shipping for the purchases from the Disney Store app..... and the box would have to have both a smile AND ears... ;)

ESPN doesn't have as much live for the four main pro sports as you'd think. Sportscenter and Sportscenter like shows are a huge chunk of their programming.

With Ray Rice, Bill Simmons called out Goodell saying that there's no way he didn't see the tape from the elevator. He called Goodell a liar and ESPN suspended Simmons for three weeks. The original Ray Rice suspension for knocking his wife unconscious was only two games. Goodell should have been forced to resign over that but ESPN's failure to stand by there guy allowed Goodell to keep his job and Simmons to ultimately move on from his.

Then because he screwed up the Ray Rice situation, Goodell took that opportunity to use ESPN as his mouthpiece for misinformation surrounding deflategate.

How important can ESPN be if they fear upsetting the NFL so much they can't be objective?
Simmons and Olbermann disecting ESPN's woes on his podcast the other day was quite entertaining and the dollar amount they put on the new SportsCenter facility was staggering.

Our boys that are turning 13 don't have cell phones. That's the equivalent of being a freak show anomaly around here. They'll be just fine and will be able to function in this world. We actually have the school encouraging bring your own technology for our kindergartener's class. 5 and 6 year olds bringing iPads to school is absurd to me.

I do know what a buy back is, thanks! What I asked for, again, is a respected source claiming Dis is artificially inflated due to stock buy backs. Even when they bought back 2+bill in September, all the coverage was either positive and or simply reporting. The stock also maintains a buy or hold rating at virtually every financial rating service.
I'll defer to @ParentsOf4 to explain this better than myself.
