We did St. Maartens last year on the Fantasy and it was one of our absolute favorite days. We had nothing planned but we knew we wanted to spend the day at the beach. We didn't want to bother with dragging a car seat for our son, so we decided to do something close so we took the water taxi over to the Boardwalk area (I think it was around $7 roundtrip per person). We walked around the downtown area and then set up shop right on the beach. You can order food, drinks, chairs and umbrellas, anything you might need. The water was warm and gorgeous and we could see our ship off in the distance. We stayed the entire day there then hopped back on the water taxi to return to the ship. It was a cheap day and definitely one of our best ones that entire trip. I hope you have a great cruise
We went over to Maho Beach (Airport Beach) and watched planes land and take off. There is a beach there with beach chairs, it does get kinda busy there. If I remember it was about $8-9 per person one way. IF you want to see airport beach look it up on You Tube,it's pretty cool. Another suggestion is to stay on the boat and enjoy it while everybody else goes ashore.
Maho is great to see the planes...especially if you can be there when the big 747 comes in!! There are definitely lots of opportunities available on St Maarten for beach time both thru DCL and booked privately.
SNUBA in St Maarten was great for me and my wife. It's the type where there are four air tubes and a tank at the surface, not the huge helmet one... The experience was great, I had never scuba dove before and it was easy to get used to. There is a trained guide and safety diver. The water when we went was quite blurry but an overall great time.
