We exchanged into SSR for October. Does it make sense to purchase the Disney Dining Plan if we plan on eating some (at least breakfast) in the room?

It depends on your eating habits.

Will you be eating at least one table service meal for each night of your stay, or some signature dining experiences?

Yes - I would plan on a table meal each night. One other thing is....my 8 year old usually eats an adult size meal. Under the plan he would be considered a child. I'm worried he would want more. ???? And probably two character meals.

My family used the DDP on our trip last year and loved it. Our kids are still young enough where they love the character meals. We also had a great table service meal in Italy for the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. The new plan isn't quite as good, but if you plan to eat a daily talbe service and/or counter service, I think you will still save $ in the end. The 8yo would have to order off of the child's menu. Hope this helps.

It is still worth it if you do a CS for lunch and a nice TS for dinner. That works for us. By dinner time, we are ready to relax and have a nice meal.

If I am not mistaken you can buy a child an adult DDP and then he/she can order off of either menu.

That is really the ideal pattern to get the most value out of DDP.

I would say 'Yes', it's worth it. You get two meals per day with the DDP, and eating breakfast in your room, IMHO, gives you some flexibility - you could have a light breakfast and book an early lunch/early dinner, or eat a full breakfast and schedule a later lunch/later dinner. Those are usually the best bets on dining times.

Hi everyone. :)

I up-aged my son last year from 9 to 10 during free dining, so it can be done. I asked the person making the reservations if I could do that since DS would probably want more variety, and she said it was no problem as long as I paid for the more expensive park tickets etc. I thought it was worth it--he ate off the kids menu most meals, but he also got to try some other stuff on a couple of nights when he was feeling more adventurous. (Now that I think of it, maybe that wasn't too cost effective, but it was nice knowing he could have whatever he wanted and there would be no additional charge)
