And now for my version of translation.. I'm assuming whole platform and wayside refers to the ride control system, with "platform" meaning like operating system and wayside again refering to the control computers.

What do you guys think?

Yay! Permits for the work on SSE have started to show up!

http://officialrecords.occompt.com/...id=29048181&file_num=20070418272&doc_status=S

Whoo hoo!

"Complete ride control replacement with Siemens System. Inter-Vehicle platform installation, Wayside extension installation, and Door monitoring and Intercom upgrade."

Notice expires (aka: must be finished by): 9/28/07

Actually, it says Expiration Date Notice of Commencement, So it must be started by that date, if not, then they have to re-apply for another permit.

It didn't say the actual start date, my friend told me it would be closed on July 5th.

The 9th is the listed start - you think they'll close early? The typical two-weeks turn around for permits versus started work suggests the 9th still..

Page 2 is interesting... Looks like ride/operating control systems to me.

This is the most exciting news regarding EPCOT Center out of the comptroller page since the "mystery box" a couple months ago!

Not exactly sure myself what the language refers to, but I think you're pretty much on, Merf, with your speculation.

My take is that the three items below "Replacement of Ride Control system with Siemens System" is not a more granular breakdown of that item. I think the Inter-Vehicle Platform is actually referring to the hardware linking each car. If I were the producer (which I'm assuming makes the feature design/improvement decisions...here in the software world it'd be the Program Manager) one of my top priorities for SSE would be to make the hardware linkage/rail dead silent. I think "Wayside Extension" refers to either a re-routing of the exit walkway within the ride (perhaps to match a changed ride path?), or more likely a physical change to the rail layout.

Just graspin' at straws though. :)

The reason i think computers/software/hardware is because in the past, Disney ride systems have "wayside computers" for the intelligent ride vehicles. You'll find references to them for things like Energy, ToT, and GMR - all of which have programmed vehicles. So, if you install the flatscreen's in the vehicles and need a way to transfer data between the vehicle and the outside world, both a computer "platform" and "wayside" would need to be installed.

That's my logic, but i'm open to it being proven wrong if anyone has some nice hard data :)

Also - the contractor is electric/wiring specialists. I doubt they'd be involved in the anything involving the physical track or building structure.

The wayside is the ride control system. So the wayside expansion just means the new Siemens ride control won't fit in the old ride control cabinet so they need to expand it. Inter-Vehicle platform just means how the vehicles will report to the ride control.

Is it a centralized control system, or one that's distributed throughout the ride? Also, is the platform a physical component, or a software component?

Interesting. Good to see things are beginning. I imagine the replacement of the control system is need at least in part for the new interactive features. :)

On a side note, Hummer1676: Awesome avatar. :D

I dont know as much about theser things as I'd like to, but I did notice that the map's outline includes the wand base. Do they use the same map for all the permits? or is there another reason for this I'm missing
