Spring Training Anyone?

I don't know anything about Dreamworld.
It's Australia's version of Disney, in the Gold Coast. But, it's more like Six Flags. The developer initially wanted to make a Disneyland there, but Disney turned them down. As a result, they license Universal IP. They have their own "Tower of Terror" there...but it's a big unthemed drop ride. :p

@LittleGiants16

I don't mind the reviews / judgement being late, and I don't mind the Thurs. deadline.

But, would it be possible to get the next weeks challenge posted earlier? Maybe...on Friday evening or something?

It's already 4p Eastern, and I would have loved to have had a weekend to work on the meat of a challenge instead of shoving all of it into weekday evenings. Especially since things are rather hectic at work right now.

Thoughts?

I was actually thinking about flipping the schedule for everyone's benefit. What would you guys think of challenges coming out on Thursdays and then being due on Tuesdays. And I apologize for the delay on everything for the past two weeks. It's the final weeks of school and everything has piled up. But, anyway, would anyone object to this new schedule? If that's fine, then I'll post a mini-challenge along with some comments for everyone tonight or tomorrow. (And by mini-challenge I mean we're going to have a caption contest; I need a good laugh).

So, since a rough majority of people are okay with flipping the schedule, we'll go ahead and do that. I'll post something to hold you all over until Thursday tomorrow, along with results from the past challenge. I apologize for the haphazard nature of the past two weeks. It's been a rough couple of weeks with finals approaching but I assure you all that things will improve over the next few weeks. Thank you all for sticking with me in this endeavor. I hope you continue to be great competitors and good friends.

Guys, first off, thanks for being so patient with me. I realize that I've been a train wreck for the past couple weeks but I am done with finals tomorrow so things should improve. And now, your results!

The Penguin Waiters - I think you guys have a very solid idea here. I liked the concept of having the golfers go around the world and see the various sites that you included. I also really liked the idea of working the My Disney Experience app/nonsense into the experience. As silly as I may find the investment, it would be a great usage of the technology. A few things that I will say, I was a little disappointed in your choice to only include 9 holes. I understand you did so out of time constraints, but I would have loved to have seen you develop your concept a little more. Aside from that, I liked your idea.

Trenton Big Thunder Mountains - You guys had some very strong ideas and thorough plans with your concept. One of your best ideas was the location of the course. The location next to the Poly would lend itself well to picking up passers by from the resort-hotel which would generate easy business for the course. I also thought it was a great idea to have two course, with one being indoor and one being outdoor. The inclusion of both courses would, as you said, allow the course to be open regardless of the weather, something no other course on property can do. Other groups included this also, but I liked that you mentioned this as part of your rationale in your submission. I will say that, while I found your hole designs to be solid, they were a little bland for me. But, in their blandness, they seemed extremely feasible. Overall, this was strong submission.

Mighty Duck Dynasty - Your idea was interesting to say the least, but I'm not entirely sure how I del about that. Part of me really likes this concept of green space linking these hotels together, but it also seems to me that this linking of the three hotels may be to the detriment of the theming of all three. As to your golf course, I think it's a great idea. The indoor idea is a great idea as I said with the previous group, and I really liked your course map. My biggest caution to you is not to try too hard and to do too much. There's a saying here at Wabash: don't do more than you have to because you're just giving them more rope to hang you with. I really like your concept for the course, but your overall idea didn't work for me.

The PARRites - Again, I thought one of the strongest points of your submission was the location you chose. The location near between Art of Animation and Pop Century would serve to bring in a great deal of families to this very family friendly course. With that being said, and I think you both would agree with this, it felt like this post was thrown together at the last minute. That's fine, I understand that life gets busy (trust me, I totally get it right now), but that's just part of a competition. Sometimes things don't work out well and you just don't have a great week. I thought your idea would have been better had it been more fleshed out, but it wasn't, so that's what I have to go with.

The JDM/CTX Squad (I couldn't find your name) - Like the group before you, this idea seemed a little half-baked. I think you had a great concept, and it could have been the best, but the idea just seemed like it was thrown together at the last minute. I liked your hole designs a lot; while they were simple they appeared to be affective. I would have liked to have learned more about your course, same as with the group before you. Again, next time flesh out your idea a little more and I think that you'll be on the right track.

This was a tough challenge to judge. Teams were all over the place with concepts and each design had their merits. With that being said, the rankings are as follows:

1. Trenton Big Thunder Mountains
2. Penguin Waiters
3. Mighty Duck Dynasty
T4. JDM/CTX and PARRites

This puts the overall scoreboard as follows:

1. @JokersWild - 4 pts
2. @Vipraa - 3 pts
T3. @RMicheal21, @Matt7187, & @comics101 - 2 pts
T6. @Sam4D23 & @MonorailRed - 1 pt
T8. @jdmdisney99, @ctxak98, @englanddg, and @mharrington - 0 pts

I'll post your photo for the caption challenge later. Thanks for bearing with me guys. It'll get better.

I have a question, if JokersWild has one more point at the end (and if he is winning) because of the warm-up challenge, will JokersWild win or will JokersWild AND Vipraa win. Because I noticed you put Jokers in first place and Vipraa in second when they are on the same team.

So if the challenge ended today Jokers would win. This is a team competition with individual scoring. Just as a spoiler alert, don't get too comfortable with your teammates. The teams will be jostled multiple times throughout the competition.

So, for those of you who wish to participate, I'd like each of you (individually) to submit a caption for the following picture. Preferably something hilarious. Best caption gets a point, if I really like more than one I'll give multiple points. Good luck, and be funny.

(Seriously though, you should be able to come up with some funny captions to this one. Just look at that grin)

Family friendly captions, I assume. :p
