Spontaneous trip help!

Hi everyone,

Little background--So i'm in the process of switching jobs. Today is my final day at my current job, and I thought I'd be starting my new job straight away. However, they preferred that I would start Dec 9, due to the upcoming holidays and all, they figured it would be easier for everyone. Very kind of them, indeed.

SO, with the unforeseen "vacation" time available, naturally my first thought was "Hmm, Can i squeeze a week at WDW in?" December is my absolute favorite time to be down in WDW. I'm eying up the first week in December (obviously).

Flight prices are less than ideal at this close point, but thats not a huge detterent. My question is, what suggestions would you guys give me in this situation? The family and I are usually pretty loyal to the BC, and would prefer to stay there. I'm just not sure how much time we'd be spending at the pool in December. I'm aware its usually hit or miss from our times down there. I spoke to the BC and they have vacancy. I know they were offering free dining and all, but when I called I guess that offer has since passed unfortunately.

So with that said, there's really nothing forcing me to stay at the BC other than its our favorite resort and I'm sorta a creature of habit. We've stayed at the Swan/Dolphin numerous times, have no issues with it, and are also able to get the government rate at the Swan/Dolphin which looks to be about $169 a night (its really closer to 220 when you factor in the annoying $20 for wifi and $15 for parking). The problem with the S&D is that they are booked to capacity on Dec 6, so i'd be out of a room beginning that night.

Do you guys think they'd have availability if I showed up to the front desk that day and asked? What would you guys do in this situation? Are there any packages still available im missing? Sorry for the rambling on!

Yes, I was thinking that as well. Might jump over to Port Orleans or somewhere along those lines. Or maybe I'm pressing my luck and should just return home on the 6th... I know, I'm a mess haha.

The thing i hate about the swan and dolphin is the lack of magicial express. Complicates everything more. It annoys me that I'll end up over at a moderate and be still stuck with the rental, although I suppose I could take mears from the airport and DME back. Probably a better idea. Sorry to be thinking aloud in this thread.

Could you leave a day earlier so that you didn't have to worry about having a room on the 6th? What about trying cheaper resorts like AKL or WL? Have you tried checking third party sites for better rates?

I also tend to be a creature of habit but sometimes a change can be good. We scheduled an impromptu trip and were scheduled in at ASMu resort when we had become quite used to staying at Pop; it was a very nice change. Be adventurous, try a new resort! Enjoy your vacation and good luck with the new job.

Yeah, I could leave a day earlier as you say. Probably should, as most WDW vacations go saturday to saturday, so i could get a jump on the weekly crowd. The weird thing about the Swan is that the rooms drop in price beginning in the first week of December. I'm not sure why. I should be better at adapting!

Thanks for the advice overall. I also never about the Trivago website, @Philasusan. Very interesting! Learn something new everyday on these boards.

I think we're just going to try and go the 1-6th. I'm greedy, but for a short impomptu trip, this will do. I appreciate everyone's input.

I made a lot of last-minute trips. If Disney didn't have my hotel available, I'd check online places like Hotel Reservations Network or Expedia. I almost always got what I wanted.

One time, I switched hotels, doing two nights somewhere before ten nights elsewhere. Switching requires packing up, checking again, etc. it wasn't for me. I'd rather find one place that worked than two.

You could try being a walk-in at the Swan/Dolphin, but it is unlikely that they'll give you a room. If they had one to sell, they'd sell it. If they were booked up through Disney, their own site and the online discounters, I'd just find somewhere else to stay.

I don't know if I should encourage you to stay at the Beach Club or try something new, because I honestly can't tell what you want. But if you want to try something new, you so should. There are a lot of hotels around and you might find one you like even more! But if you love the BC and don't want to quit it, no reason not to stay there. :)

Hmmm... I would say, if you like the BC then stay there. Or take the Swan/Dolphin and then move the last day to BC...but only if you like to switch during your stay. I like jumping around. I don't spend hours at the parks while on property anyways so switching us is easy for me and I always have a car....
