I didn't hate it because was just so great to see Marion again and see Indy in action. I didn't even mind the fridge moment - of course it was preposterous, what else is new in an Indy film? But who can trust Disney and Kathleen Kennedy with any of Lucas' IP? We'll see what happens with this flick. I will definitely rent it. FWIW.

I firmly believe the issue is a creative entity is being led by people without any creative or artistic talent. They are probably evaluating the film purely as a list of checkboxes of what they think makes a good film. Legacy franchise, well-liked character and actor. Introducing a female replacement. Actress they like. Redresses some problematic issues with the franchise. Push various political agendas. Has a director who has made acclaimed films. Stuff like that. Never whether it's actually a good film.

It's also why a lot of criticism of these kinds of projects get met with a response of just listing of a checklist of attributes that have nothing to do with the quality of the film. If you don't like the film/series you're against the items on the checklist of attributes of why it is good.

This approach is also why so many projects are repetitive. A bunch of the same check boxes need to be attached to everything.

Plus they probably want to go to Cannes, get all the special treatment. Arrange for Harrison to get the Palm D'or. Have a big old fuss made around them.

Crusade also re-hashes a lot of Raiders. The overall story is awfully familiar. Going up against the rival who stole his relic in the beginning. A search for a holy artifact that backfires for the villain. A return to the desert motif.

Whenever they move away from what was done before, it just doesn't live up to the original.

The Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider movie could almost be a remake of The Last Crusade.

Hollywood as a whole has become paralyzed by “risk aversion”…so all those things list is non-negotiable…but a plot is🙄

Really dumb

As far as ford and the award…that was a Disney pushed gimmick (who wants free stays at Euro?!?)…for sure.

That reminds me of 2016 when abc had JJ Abrams present best director at the Oscars…iger’s way of highlighting “a slight”…
…directed an awful reboot…then and worse each day since.

Everyone is fully entitled to their opinion good, bad or indifferent. Regardless of any tomato scores etc, I liked the teasers and tailers, and I am going to see the movie.

Nobody is saying not too…

But how much is bad buzz gonna depress the box office on a movie that wasn’t exactly guaranteed to be “wanted” in the first place?

All of them until Kennedy retires? Obviously Disney doesn't have the guts to get rid of her. So until she decides to hang it up, we're stuck with it. Maybe Kennedy can resurrect strange magic! If anyone can make it worse, it'll be her. She's running out of franchises to screw up. Lol

Which is weird because she was part of some of the biggest blockbusters in history. A lot of my favorite movies had her involvement. Could it be she can't function without Spielberg breathing down her neck? It is not like she never produced a movie before.

I'm as critical of Kennedy as anyone. That said, there's no denying her resume as a producer. The problem is, she isn't a creative, at all. She knows how to keep a film on track from a logistics standpoint. But from a talent acquisition standpoint and realizing you don't have the knowledge of IPs you are in charge of, she fails. The line that sums up her failure at managing the star wars brand for me was
"We don't have years of comics, books and graphic novels to draw from like marvel has."

It doesn't help that she decided to run Lucasfilm with an us against the fans mentality. You don't win a lot of favor from the fans when your company is constantly antagonizing the fans. Just shut your mouth, and focus on making quality content.

CONFIRMED: Disney 100th anniversary logo appeared at this film (usually only appeared at Disney or Pixar-produced films), with Paramount Pictures the second logo and Lucasfilm Ltd. (now Disney subsidiary) the third logo that appeared afterwards, all in short versions. The difference is the original variant of the logo (with 100 YEARS OF WONDER tagline) was showed up instead of alternate one without tagline.

The first Indy movie that didn't start with a dissolve from the Paramount mountain to something else in the first scene. No CG Gopher.

Paramount had an agreement with Lucasfilm, who funded the movies, to distribute them. That didn't change when Disney purchased Lucasfilm.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm they made an agreement with Paramount that Disney would handle the distribution of the film, with Paramount still getting whatever percentage they're entitled to. A win for Paramount who get paid but don't have to actually do anything. That deal apparently included the Paramount logo still being in front of the movie.

Same as Marvel. Disney bought Marvel and started distributing the movies but the Paramount logo still appeared in front of Avengers, amongst others, until that deal expired.

So when this film doesn't feature the absurd "woke" ending the noise machine was screeching about and which got credulously parroted onto these boards, can we have a discussion about how their is a very efficient, lucrative network of outlets that just makes up garbage to try to harm Disney because its perceived as a culture war enemy? Are we going to talk about how toxic that is for American culture?

Or are we going to pretend noone completely bought into the lies and just do it all again in a few months (or weeks)?
