The de-aging of Harrison Ford is apparently pretty good. No Uncanny Valley.

How I wish the same tech had been applied to Bill Murray in Ghostbusters:Afterlife. He looked like the Walking Dead.

Ending is reportedly “wild.” Given the time travel dial and the reports that there are more cameos, I’m imagining the ending might bring back Karen Allen, Indy turns the dial back so he can be with her in some fashion? But “wild” also makes me think the third act could be a BTTF Pt 2 style return to earlier adventures including Raiders.

I was going to respond with some funny pic about 'top men' but I was afraid to Google such a pic because my "safe search" is off.

Now how hard was that? I have to complete your own joke.

I read some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie doesn't seem very original. They all start out looking for one treasure with a chase to claim it. Then they jump into the next quest with plenty of substandard Little Mermaid style CG. Throw in a quippy girl and comic relief kid and run around the world in bad CG. Finally do a crazy BTTF2 time travel ending. During it, they keep doing a lot of references to better movies. It seems adequate but not really fun. They should have just adapted one of the video games instead like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis or Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings.

Frankly, I WANT a good Indiana Jones film. I want this one to be good. I hope it IS good. I actually didn't hate the Crystal Skull movie (except the part where Shia LeBeouf went swinging with the monkeys, that was SO stupid, and also there were jokes that fell flat). I didn't hate it because was just so great to see Marion again and see Indy in action. I didn't even mind the fridge moment - of course it was preposterous, what else is new in an Indy film? But who can trust Disney and Kathleen Kennedy with any of Lucas' IP? We'll see what happens with this flick. I will definitely rent it. FWIW.

People say they want something "good" but cannot define what that actually means or looks like.

That said, bad is bad. Nothing in any of the marketing for this movie screamed "grand finale".

What I would like to see is an original story that doesn't keep referencing other movies. I don't want them reenact the third act from other movies. I'm looking at you Force Awakens. I don't want a remake. Just give me something fun with lots of action and a good story. If you need to replace Ford with someone younger, please do it! Please don't use the trope of ultimately replacing the male lead with a snarky female lead.

I'm not getting any of that from what the reviews say.

I think the movie will do fine.

Crystal Skull, despite many flaws, was fun.

This movie should have more than enough action and humour to appeal to the average movie goer.

I feel this is like Star Wars, where a vocal subset of the fandom has overly high expectations, and will be devastated by anything that doesn't match the quality of their ideal installment(s).

Making a movie as good as Raiders is lightning in a bottle. It's so easy to sit at home and say, that movie was so good, why can't they make four more just as good?

Good luck with that.

Based on learning that Indy is divorcing Marion and Mutt died in Vietnam could it be possible that Indy sees his own lifelong mistakes and pulls a Steve Rogers at the end of End Game by setting things right with Marion in the past. Just an idea but it feels very much like what Disney would do.

If the premise/end goes the way I predict, then, while campy, may not be so bad (especially with the way a lot of movies are doing time resets these days). However, like anything, it's all about execution. If early reviews indicate anything, execution is, shall we say, lacking.

I wonder if the ending is Indy going back (somehow the dial deaging him). Then him deciding to 'do things right' with Marion and stay with her after the events of raiders.

Maybe then Ms. Goddaughter goes back with him, and he tells her she needs to go off and do his adventures... But do them 'right'. Then a montage of her saving children in Temple of Doom, obtaining artifacts through the decades and returning them to indigenous people... All while wearing Indy's hat.

Who knows.

Yeah I can see that. Or maybe not even doing the ROTLA adventure at all....stay with Marion the first time they were together before ROTLA ever took place.

Curois... that would allow them to work in the classic statement people like to make about Raiders... That Indy had no effect on the outcome. With or without him, the power of God would still destroy the Nazis once they opened the ark.

Except they did that with The Last Crusade.

Which still doesn't mean it's somehow easy to go 5 for 5.

Crusade also re-hashes a lot of Raiders. The overall story is awfully familiar. Going up against the rival who stole his relic in the beginning. A search for a holy artifact that backfires for the villain. A return to the desert motif.

Whenever they move away from what was done before, it just doesn't live up to the original.
