Also, the "gag" they do at the end with Groot was really well placed.

How they made a point with Gamora not understanding him while everyone else does and at one point saying "you're just making that up, aren't you?" when someone repeats him... Only to get it herself before... we all get it.

That was a payoff all on its own, six movies in the making.

This was miles ahead of Endgame but I don't think a fair comparison can really be made.

Endgame was like the third act to everything that had come before far more than it was any kind of a standalone movie.

This was a third installment. It was important to understand the characters and their relationships for it to all really make sense but but unlike Endgame, it had a plot and an emotional story that was all its own.

I'm glad there won't be a 4 with this cast of characters because that means nobody can screw it up, even if they do keep the GOTG name going with the "new" crew.
I don’t disagree with you…the last couple of minutes of endgame I loved…but the rest was kinda a predictable mess

Gotg3 kept me in it without eyerolls and giggles.

But I think the tea leaves says it’s over. They finished the arcs and just left some post scene nibbles of best case scenarios.

But the idea you can “swap teams” never really works. 2 actors may actually be done…who knows about the others?

Well, when you talk to the comic book people...

But just the same, if they try to move forward with a (mostly) new motley crew while continuing to call them by that name, at least it'll be a whole different set of movies since Gunn and crew were able to effectively provide closure to this group's shared story.

I guess they confirmed at the end that Pratt still has a contract for solo or some other teamup but yeah, at least two majors have declared themselves out going forward for very simple and good reasons which, combined with Gunn is enough for me to consider this set of stories closed... and with a good ending.

Hopefully Disney won't screw it up and after this year's installment, Indy'll get to rest his bones, too.

But that isn’t gonna work.

They keep trying to swap looks and characters in “established doctrine” and it continues to go south.

Definitions of insanity time.

They tried to “recenter” the avengers and it didn’t get off the ground. Now they’re trying to take the same replacement character and go a whacky different direction and it doesn’t look great.

The captain America is gonna bomb. And that’s even more bizarre.
There’s they have a great character and are trying to make him another guy who was far more important.

It’s just tough to keep anything going for this long. Have to easy off the gas a little before it becomes pedantic.

Not disagreeing - go check out the tail end of the Mario thread to get a taste of what I'm talking about.

Someone over there was very insistent it can happen and it's going to continue to be amazing if they do it because the roster changed over time with the comics... despite me continuing to try to point out that coming out with new movies with new characters by different writer/directors and continuing to call it the same thing doesn't make it the same thing at all.

But I think you and I agree - you can change the label on a Huntz bottle of ketchup and call it Heinz but that doesn't make it Heinz. 🤷‍♂️

... But us thinking it's a bad idea isn't going to stop Disney if they think they can make a buck on it and I haven't ridden Cosmic Rewind but a part of me thinks there may be a reason beyond cheaping out initially for why they didn't put animatronics anywhere in it.

I also thought it was great and glad the audience and everyone is generally receiving it well. A very nice send off. The secret sauce really was likeable characters. I'm also happy they didn't pander and let Gamora have her character moment. She is still herself, but she isn't 'that' Gamora. She's found and has her family, she isn't just a substitute for Peter's dead girlfriend though.

I think and hope we are done with standalone Guardians movies. But certainly have some of the members show up in bits and pieces in larger projects make sense.

Rocket and Groot are a bit evergreen in that actors seem generally willing enough to reprise voice acting roles. Very different than the intensity of some of their makeup for the character actors. I actually really thought Chris would be done with the franchise though.

There's some fun play with the audience understanding Groot and all of our extraneous non-Guardians in future team ups not.

I really liked how we understood Groot at the very end of the film when he said, “I love you guys”. Gunn said we were able to hear it because the audience is now part of the family so we heard what he really meant.
I hope they stick with it being that we the audience now can understand him, there can be so much more they can do with him.

I get what you are talking about but I do prefer just hearing him say, "I am Groot" and we understand what he is saying by the other characters.
To each their own. For example I would have liked to hear what teenage Groot actually said during almost all of GotG2, it would have been fun to hear both sides of the conversation.

Just because this may or may not be the last ever Guardians movie doesn’t mean we won’t see him or the other Guardians in another MCU film.
Probably likely…

But we know where “team swapping” works…and it’s in the comics, not on the screen.

Did I mention I loved this one? It’s really a triumph. But still bittersweet.

Guardians did thorough backstories over the last 10 years for almost ALL the characters. Quill, Gamora, nebula, and now rocket…and mantis and drax got pretty fleshed out too.

I’m glad to have gotten to watch it. Very lord of the rings esque to me on the dock at the end…

But you can’t go home again with MCU.
They have struggled trying to “pivot”…because deep down we never wanted them too.

The evans void gets bigger by the day…bet his eventual price goes up by about a mil a day too…

I know…they “made him”…that doesn’t matter. He made cap and was the spine.

Agree to disagree here.

It doesn’t matter if you agree…it’s not working
I'm happy you liked it.
Right?
As it was said in another Disney film, they keep moving forward.
I lesser yield…less eyes…less products…
You’re not a corporate CFO are you?
Speak for yourself.
I know what they want at the comic book shop. But that’s not what burbank or AMC wants
You keep saying this, doesn't make it true.
But still…it is until we see any evidence it’s not…and we have not to this point.

If marvels and Captain falcon rake…I’ll stand corrected. Be the first to say it too😎

I don’t like being right…honestly.

Since we haven't have a new team line up yet in any of the movies you don't know if it'll work or not. The first time we'll have a real new team line up, maybe, is Kang Dynasty. And I suspect that'll do just fine since it'll be an Avengers event film.

No, but I play one on TV.

AMC and other theater chains couldn't care less.

I don't think either would do enough for you.

That’s all too fringe. That’s what you never seem to grasp.
And they indeed have tried to slide people into avengers. It’s just not overt. But it hasn’t gotten any traction to speak of…

Keep playing 😎

They don’t because they and regal are always close to bankruptcy

It absolutely would. Results based business…make good decisions and the people will come.
