"If you aim at nothing - you hit nothing." Now my third favorite MCU/D+ philosophical quote. (The other two being Vision lines from Age of Ultron and WandaVision.)
Other thoughts -
Great fight choreography is always a dance and this fully leaned into that.
Tony Leung/Wenwu's look of love at the end of his fight sequence with his future wife was just melting. But it was a weird setup that the guy was clearly a warlord/mass murderer and child abuser but we are supposed to feel sorry for him about losing his wife?
That said, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh are both just so beautiful I was happy to soak in every minute that each was onscreen.
Awkwafina is ridiculously endearing (granted I think I've only otherwise seen her in Crazy Rich Asians).
And while I fully admit it's terribly wrong of me to say that Trevor Slattery is Ben Kingsley's greatest role (just as it's wrong of me to believe that Gilderoy Lockhart is Kenneth Branagh's greatest role), oh damn he just slays me.
Even though I hated what they did with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, his sheer over-the-top ridiculousness as Trevor in that and the All Hail the King short (just added to Disney+!) was glorious. And I loved every second of his completely unnecessary presence in this film. lol Plus Morris.
But as I watched, I kept thinking this seemed like it was basically a souped-up Iron Fist meets Frozen 2 with tiny homages to Neverending Story dragon-riding and Tangled/Thor: Dark World's lantern/funeral scenes. And probably a lot of Raya, too, but I've only managed to get two minutes into that on Disney+ thus far before stopping, so I can't say for sure. It did remind me that I do want to rewatch Frozen 2 though.
I will also note, granted as a big fan of "Falcon and Winter Soldier", that I thought Madripoor (shot in Atlanta) looked cooler than Macau (presumably shot in Macau). lol
This is mid-pack for me for the MCU - probably above Black Widow simply because I did enjoy the fantasy world and magic and humor in this more than the spy stuff.
