SPOILERS: Discussion of 'Shang-Chi'

Yeah I wondered that as well. Is she doing an “evil” Ten Rings but just with more girl power? Or a more benevolent organization? And it seemed to show off that there would be broadcasts from there so maybe it’s just a souped up version of her old fight club?
Seems to me that the Xialing's Ten Rings would do well to attract the former Red Room ladies.

It was a flop, why do a sequel?!? ;)

And it won't be before 2024.
Flop? It did $94mm opening weekend, which was above expectations.

Now, the fact that the Chinese Gov't does not like Shang Chi (indefinitely postponed release) will probably prevent any future installments.

Sigh. You gotta read the full thread. There is poster, 1Happyghosthost, who predicted that Shang-Chi was going to flop and when it obviously didn't, he doubled and tripled down and still said it was a huge flop. He either couldn't admit he was wrong or just is a troll but either way he showed he was a joke.

Also, there will most definitely be a sequel to the movie even without China being on board.

Honestly... Screw China. I think we need to stop trying to appease them. People should be outspoken against their tyrannical government, and human rights atrocities.

If China isn't going to allow any movies from the U.S. in which anybody who's ever worked on the film said something negative about China, then there will be precious few American films ever playing in China again.

"If you aim at nothing - you hit nothing." Now my third favorite MCU/D+ philosophical quote. (The other two being Vision lines from Age of Ultron and WandaVision.)

Other thoughts -

Great fight choreography is always a dance and this fully leaned into that.

Tony Leung/Wenwu's look of love at the end of his fight sequence with his future wife was just melting. But it was a weird setup that the guy was clearly a warlord/mass murderer and child abuser but we are supposed to feel sorry for him about losing his wife?

That said, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh are both just so beautiful I was happy to soak in every minute that each was onscreen.

Awkwafina is ridiculously endearing (granted I think I've only otherwise seen her in Crazy Rich Asians).

And while I fully admit it's terribly wrong of me to say that Trevor Slattery is Ben Kingsley's greatest role (just as it's wrong of me to believe that Gilderoy Lockhart is Kenneth Branagh's greatest role), oh damn he just slays me. :D Even though I hated what they did with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, his sheer over-the-top ridiculousness as Trevor in that and the All Hail the King short (just added to Disney+!) was glorious. And I loved every second of his completely unnecessary presence in this film. lol Plus Morris. :D

But as I watched, I kept thinking this seemed like it was basically a souped-up Iron Fist meets Frozen 2 with tiny homages to Neverending Story dragon-riding and Tangled/Thor: Dark World's lantern/funeral scenes. And probably a lot of Raya, too, but I've only managed to get two minutes into that on Disney+ thus far before stopping, so I can't say for sure. It did remind me that I do want to rewatch Frozen 2 though. :)

I will also note, granted as a big fan of "Falcon and Winter Soldier", that I thought Madripoor (shot in Atlanta) looked cooler than Macau (presumably shot in Macau). lol

This is mid-pack for me for the MCU - probably above Black Widow simply because I did enjoy the fantasy world and magic and humor in this more than the spy stuff.

Just came out of this movie and loved it. Perhaps the most elegant/beautiful fight choreography of any Marvel movie, the characters felt very richly developed from a few words, and the music was great as an 88rising fan. Really, really happy with it.

I was always under the impression it became a new fight club given the blend of old and new in the compound - I guess we'll find out when the Ten Rings return. And I'm very glad they will be, given the org is at the helm of Meng'er Zhang who is entirely endearing.

Is China's market really strong enough to exclude the MCU? Heck, is ANY market strong enough to exclude the MCU at this point? Seems they are only hurting themselves.

China has been ramping up its own domestic cinema. Some of their movies make huge box office... mostly just in China.
