SPOILERS: Black Panther - Wakanda Forever

HA. Between the critics all loving it, and what they are actually saying about it, not going to lie, I am more and more thinking this one just is not for me. Which is fine (Marvel shouldn't make all movies for one type of person), but me personally, this doesn't sound like one I'd like.

Is this TRULY a spoilers thread? Or can we not really talk about actual spoilers yet? If we cannot, then what can be discussed here that would fit in this thread?

There may be leaks. Theories based on comics correctly guessing the plot points. And those who saw the preview may be violating their NDA.

If one doesn't want to see any of that, then this thread is not for them.

None of that may ever get posted, in which case, this thread is ready for when the movie hits wide release.

I'm not going to link to it directly, but the Marvel Studios Spoilers reddit has a lengthy plot leak if you're interested.

Why am I not posting it? I don't know if Reddit is allowed on here. Also, I'm not gonna copy-paste the whole thing because... well... it's really long.

T'Challa dies of a lengthy disease, Ramonda dies when Namor and his people flood Wakanda, Shuri becomes the Black Panther because she's able to create an artifical herb, she sees Killmonger in the ancestral plane, Namor survives and the two nations establish an uneasy peace, T'Challa and Nakia are revealed to have a 5-year-old son in the post credit scene.

Context? Who needs context! Search out the leak ya dang self.

This movie looks to be on a great start with critics (currently 94%).

Some changes from spoilers from what it sounds include
No Doom credit scene. We knew that. Also, there's no hint that M'Baku becomes king unless he does but without much fanfare. There were even some 'spoilers' that Shuri gives her mantle to M'Baku so she can get back to research.

I think it's good that there was no Doom credit scene. After watching the movie it would have felt inappropriate to end the movie with Doom instead of a tribute to Chadwick/T'challa's legacy.

I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is it being a bit too long in my opinion. There were some scenes that could have been cut down in order to get it under 2hr30min. But I see why they didn't.

Other than that I do like how they are going to handle things in the future. It should ease the complaints from the side of the fandom that demanded recasting T'Challa.

So basically Phase 4 has been about setting up the future of the MCU with younger actors taking over. Its good it setups up the MCU for another 10-15 years. And honestly they can keep doing this every 10-15 if they want to keep things fresh.

Not only that, but there's a way they could "speed up" time. Here's how:
Young T'Challa is kidnapped and brought back in time about 20 years. He escapes and lives out his time apart from everything. Meanwhile, Wakanda mourns the kidnapping/loss of the little boy. He eventually makes his way back to Wakanda as a young man, warning Wakanda of the coming "doom" ([pun fully intended), ready to take the throne

I have a plot synopsis of how this could work in details.

In the past few years, Britain has been taking a public lashing for its Colonization days. In movies like RRR or even in Ms. Marvel, British Colonialism is portrayed for its immoral subjugation and abuse of many peoples around the globe. John Oliver is just brutal in his condemnation of British Colonialism and its long-lasting global trauma it left behind.

Well... it's nice to see in Wakanda Forever, someone making the point, "Oh, yeah, Spain and France, too."

The barbarism of a supposedly civilized country like Spain was put on display and became part of Namor's origin story.

And France was the aggressor in trying to steal vibranium (and surprisingly, not the U.S., tho, we catch a glimpse of plans to try to destabilize Wakanda). And then we see France's fingerprint on Haiti later. France was a huge Colonizer of Africa right up there with Britain. And the four of them (Britain, France, Spain, U.S.) implicated in African slavery.

The whole point of "Afro-futurism" as represented by Wakanda is, "Here's what we could have been without your wars, slavery, exploitation, and colonization." And then that gets applied to the indigenous Mesoamericans creating Talocan.

(I'm not saying that Wakanda is perfect... the whole physical contest to be king thing is... icky.)

Loved the movie. Seriously loved it.

I’m surprised this was how they chose to introduce mutants into the MCU.

Saw BP2 last night. I debated waiting until next weekend to see it when I could get a good spot in an IMAX or Dolby or PRIME theater, but decided to see it anyways. Found a single random seat near the edge of a row at a regular 7:15pm showing. They were all packed!

I didn't cry, but it was very bittersweet and somber, especially that opening silent MCU intro. The ending scenes was very touching with Shuri remembering her brother and finally going to terms with her grief.

Going into it, I heard the CIA stuff was too heavy/long and could've been cut, but I felt the opposite. There was so little of it throughout that I felt they already heavily cut down that side-plot, or it was just shoddy writing to get Ross in the movie.

Shuri and Okoye have a great dynamic, and they both have great range! It was pretty obvious that Shuri would become the next Black Panther, so it was pretty cool to see her take on it, especially when she chose the helmet to wear.

I kinda felt like Riri was much a thrown-in, that once her arch was done she became a side character with a cool Iron Man suit. She also has great dynamics with Shuri, so hopefully they have more interactions in future movies/shows.

Ramonda dying was expected, but dang I didn't expect her to drown..

Speaking of, Namor was fantastic. He was well delivered with a compelling backstory. He never faced a foe that was his level or greater, that he finally had a reality check. But seems like he still has a hidden agenda with that one scene at the end when Wakanda will ask for Talokan's help one day.

Some critiques – the CGI was rough in some parts, especially in the Wakanda backdrop scenes, can tell the green screening. Also when Namor would dive back into the ocean. I disliked the constant fade ins/outs. One or two is fine, but there were just too many imo.

Overall, really liked it and thought it was really good. I get why some may think it's too long, perhaps the MIT scenes dragged on for a bit. Characters were phenomenal and cinematography was nice. Some fights like the bridge fight didn't have any music playing, just raw sounds which was unique for once. Definitely gonna have to see this one again 8/10

And to rank my Phase 4 movies thus far,
Shang Chi
No Way Home
Wakanda Forever
Dr. Strange
Love and Thunder
Black Widow

I'm willing to bet that in Ryan Coogler's original script for Black Panther 2, prior to Chadwick Boseman's death, that Riri wasn't in the movie at all and that it was SHURI who was the brilliant scientist who found a way to detect vibranium. I bet Namor, in the original script, wanted to abduct Shuri and that him going after T'challa's sister is was what instigated the Wakanda/Talochan war. It would have definitely made Namor's feud with T'challa and the Wakandans more personal since he was threatening their princess instead of some random American.

However, Once Boseman died and Shuri took T'challa's role in the original story, I believe they needed to have someone else take Shuri's original role in the story and decided to shoehorn in Riri Williams. I liked Dominique Thorne's performance, but feel the character was treated too much like a plot device instead of an actual character.
