Splitting visit in different resorts?

We are planning for next June during sww and considering poly but last two trips have really like pofq. We don't have loads of mony to throw around but Iif tax returns are good was considering poly Because youngest will be two durin trip and convenience of monerail for afternoon naps. I also grew up going to poly and the nostalgia piece appeals to me! The practical side of me keeps saying to stick with pofq and then you can stay longer. After listening to disney podcasts I've also begun to consider splitting trip between pofq and poly (couple days at poly and most at pofq). What is everyone else's thoughts? Ever split trip between different resorts? Can you do this package wise? Is it worth it ? Do I just pick one? Tips on doing it? How does Disney handle transferring you to other hotel? Thanks In advance! Love the forum and happy to get some advice from other Disney pros

we switch every trip. its very easy. Disney will move your luggage for you. you have nothing to worry about. This way, you get the poly and pofq. (or any two, or three resorts if you want in one stay). You just need to be in your rooms for them to pick up and deliver your luggage. have fun and happy travels!!

yes it is easy to change resorts while there. just call bellman to get luggage and ask for it to be delivered when you get to your new resort. however, they have a set schedule for transportation for this. it can take hours to get over, so keep anything you need sooner with you
can you do this with a package is a completely different issue. you would need two different reservations, as each resort counts as a completely different item. so you would be putting down two deposits and getting the extras that they include in a pakcage twice, and also two different pack tickets, (say 2 day ticket when at poly and 5 day ticket for when at POFQ) this can be more expensive.
i frequently switch while there, but get room only reservations and buy my tickets at undercover tourist.
also if you are including dining package, be aware of this. the one time i did this was during a free dining promotion and when i booked my dining reservations forgot that i would only have access to three days worth of my credits when i checked in at the first hotel and would get the rest when i checked in to the second. problem was that i was planning to use all the snack credits the second day at the food and wine festival, and they were not yet available. not the end of the world, but kicked for myself for not thinking it through.
i suggest room only ressies whenever you plan to split a stay

I love switching resorts! We've done it many times, both as adults and I also did it as a kid on family vacations. It's easy -- I will second the note about just doing room-only reservations, as that's how we've always done it. I have also found that it's easier if you happen to have a car with you versus WDW-only transportation, although I've done it that way too and it is doable (now that I'm a parent myself, though, I will tell you that I would definitely not attempt it with small children. Just too much chaos.)

Basically on the day you leave Resort 1, when you check out, you tell them you're moving on to Resort 2, and they'll handle moving your bags for you. The only other thing I'd add here is that if you have fragile and/or important items to transfer and you don't feel OK just leaving them with Bell Services you might get stuck hauling it around for a while (ex -- one year I took my work laptop with me and I just didn't feel right about leaving it behind, so I ended up having to carry it to our next resort, which required a bus and monorail ride. Not the end of the world but kind of a hassle.) Bell Services does a great job and I have never had any issues with them, but some items you just *can't* leave behind, you know what I mean?

Other than that, switching resorts is painless and a great chance to see more of the World. Enjoy!

We too have done it and enjoyed it very much. It was dif easy and agree with the other posters that you should do a room only it makes it a little less hassle and that way. Make sure to call bell services the day before and they can help you transfer all your luggage and stuff. I also agree that if you have anything like food wise you may want to consider bringing it over yourself if possible. We had some stuff for my son that didn't make it but other than that it was fairly easy.
