Splittin Trip Between Two Resorts

In the interest of saving money on our next trip, we were thinking of splitting the trip between POFQ and the Polynesian. I know many people have mentioned or done something similar, but is it a pain to transfer hotels, book the trip and everything else? Would it be too much hassle?

We do it all the time on our summer trip. It is painless. You do NOTHING!! Just be in your room when bell service comes to get your stuff and you need to be in your new room for that resort's bell service to bring your bags. Nothing else needed other than to tell them where you are transferring to.

We have done it, but it can be a pain. Sometimes there is a gap between checking out of one resort and having your room be ready in the next. It can be several hours of not having an actual room. Some people may not mind this, but if you like to go back and rest midday, you are unable to do that.

We've always wanted to stay at the Poly. Never split our trip with two different hotel resorts though. I'm sure the castmembers handle it all! Probably could be done when you are at the parks.

We have done split stays too. My only advice is cab your luggage to the new resort and check in early in the morning. Then, you can meet up with the rest of your family at a park. The last time we did it, it was for the last night. WDW lost our luggage and it we did not have it back until midnight and we had to get on DME at 4AM. It was a nightmare.

We've done it for the last several trips, and enjoy staying at 2 places. We always just transfer the bags via bell services, go play in the parks, and get to our new resort later in the day...5pm-6pm or so. We've never had a problem at all, but the advice in a previous post about taking a cab over to the new resort early is a great option.

One other thing to watch is how you buy tickets. We have APs so not an issue, but if you book, for example, 8 nights at 2 diiferent resorts and attach park tickets to your rooms, you might end up getting 2-4 day park tickets, instead of an 8 day. Obviously the former is much more expensive! You can either simply buy park passes in the resort or at park Guest Relations, and not have them attached to your room card. Or, you can get your park tickets (ie: 8 days) attached to your first room reservation, while the second resort is 'room only'. You just keep the 'Key to the World' card from your first resort and use it as your park pass, while staying at the second resort. (If you have APs, Florida Resident passes, or already knew all this, sorry for rambling. :))

I don't think it is too painful. Disney really takes care of everything. If you are doing dining and tickets too, just have to watch how to book it.

I enjoy it actually. My wife does not. Perspectives:

I like the variety. I like the cost savings (*when app.). I like combining free dining with DVC in the same week. I like getting packages, then converting to AP's.

It is a pain to pack your bags up, and unpack them again. It takes up precious WDW vacation time. You do not have a room in the middle of the day when you may need it for a nap, change clothes, etc.

We usually drive down so we were thinking of just packing the car, driving over, and checking in and taking bell services out of it. If we stay at the Poly for the second half of the trip we can drive there and take the monorail over in the morning.

I've thought about it a lot. Just don't want to pack everything up and then unpack everything again. Just moving all that stuff wether they do it for you or not seems like a pain. What if your next room is not ready? You without a room for a few hours.
