Ok to calm your fears I love SM just as much as anyone else. However on my last trip to WDW I noticed that the "HOLY CRAP" anti concussion brown foamy thing was down right smelly. Now don’t get me wrong I'm no expert on smell but I do have 3 little brothers so on a scale of 1 - 10 I would have to say I'm a 6 or 7.
The smell isn’t the worst part. The smell seems to burrow its way into you skin. Now when ever you put your hands to your face no matter how many time you wash them the still smell.
I think that this might be our only free souvenir we see form the people over at WDW.
So tell me what you think or are there any interesting stories that you would like to share.

I was there last week... but I don't recall having anything like that happen to me.

I was there over spring break this year. My dad, brother, brother-in-law, and I all went to an E-ticket night. Even to this day we still can't talk about splash mountain without joking about how smelly we were after riding . We were on it around midnight, so all the days activities probably had some effect on the water, but I never remembed it smelling before that.

That same thing happened to my husband and I the last time we were there. It's down right NASTY. They never seem to clean the logs. Yuck!!!

It's not exactly the water that smells. It's the seat and handle padding in the logs. The water gets into them and bacteria flourishes to create the nasty mildew type smell. It's disgusting. The first time I noticed the smell was back in '98...I thought it was me the smell was coming from lol...turned out it was just stuck to my hands lol.

True Dat, DCS Disney ! The last time I rode Splash Mountain it stank to hi heaven. I thought it was the B.O. from the guy behind me but it turned out to be the foam thing that the was mildewing. I must have washed my hand 5 or 6 times before I could get the smell off of them.

Same here when I went on the thing in August of last year. I dont remember if the same thing happened in May of this year, but considering that I Am pretty sensitive to strong odors, I would like to think I would have noticed. Should they maybe add chlorine to counteract the effects of the mildew? Belle

You might have smelled Trash Mountain.

That's right; the back of Splash Mountain is used as the Magic Kingdom trash sorters and "dumpsters", if you will. You can get a really good look (and smell!) on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. Sometimes, sadly, the smell drifts with the wind to the exterior parts of the ride portion...lol

Yes, we've had that awful smell worm its way into the skin on our hands, too. Thank God for antibacterial soap (although just one washing didn't do the trick for us, either)

On my last trip at the beginning of September, we rode twice and the foam piece looks like it had been changed recently. There was no smell. On all my previous trips it has smelled really bad.
