The bottom line is that a log-flume ride does not require safety belts or bars. They are always loaded proportional to the weight of the guests. Also, remember what happened when that one river-water ride flipped over (you know, the one with the circular boats)... people were trapped under the boat and I believe one lady drown. If for some odd reason the log in SM was the fail and flip over, I would not want to be strapped into my seat.

Basically, log-flume rides don't need safety belts or bars... they are tame rides, the angle of descent does not compromise rider safety, and if the vehicle were to fail and capsize... people could easily be killed. I don't see any reason to have these devices on Splash Mountain.
