Splash Mountain Waterfall

Hi. I'm a newbie, but been reading for months now. I searched, but couldn't find anything pertinent about my question so here goes. I've been to WDW 4 times now, and the first year after the big drop on Splash Mountain there was a HUGE waterfall which ended up getting you soaked if you sat on the wrong side of the log. The next 3 years it wasn't working? Just wondering if anybody knows what's with that? I'm heading back in 60 days (and counting) and just thought I'd be prepared if it would be working.

The only waterfall I can think of is after the main drop going back into the attraction building. It wasn't huge at all though. Just got you a little wet. It was on last year but this fall it wasn't. Is this the one you're talking about?

Sounds like hes talking about the one at the very end when your usually waiting to get off and they get backed up. The log magically stops right at the waterfall and gets people on the right soaked. And I agree, if its the one hes talking about then it hasen't been working for a while.

I'd assumed it was seasonal. Last time I remember getting stuck near it, it was during June and very very warm. So I certainly didn't mind. But during colder weather this past month I've noticed it wasn't running, or at least running with much flow volume.

Not sure, I have been in the past november and april and it wasnt working either times. Pretty sure about it because I always make sure I sit my fiance on the right side so she gets soaked not me, as much as I like the ride I hate getting hit by toilet water. lol

Was on in May but the splash barely reached the log, hardly a big deal to anyone sitting there at that time. It was never HUGE though.

Yes, it is the one right after the main drop, and if it's on, you do get pretty wet granted you are sitting on the right side of the log. I first thought maybe they shut it off during really cold weather, but the first year we went (we always go in January/February) one of the CMs told us it was the coldest it had been in years. The average temp was around 50 degrees. Being from New England it was fine with us! Anyway, the waterfall was going that year, but none of the following 3 years.

Okay, maybe it wasn't HUGE. It was big enough to get my husband more wet than going down the drop (he was sitting on the righthand side of the log, and the log did stop right in front of it). I just wanted to know if anyone knew the rhyme or reason of when it is going.

Probably a combination of it being broken and / or their switching it off in the "colder" months when people will not appreciate getting wet.

I don't know how much truth there is to it getting "switched off."

I was there for a particularly cold New Years Eve week 2001-02 and managed to get stuck under that plume while it was pouring and just barely 50 degrees!

All I've got to say is YUCK! That was hands down the coldest I have ever been in WDW!

Here's the truth. About a year and a half ago the waterfall was turned off for guest situation reasons. Then months later it was decided to bring it back but with much less pressure. The waterfall still works but it is controlled now by Maintinence instead of Operations so they forget to put it on alot of times.

Thanks UCF Disneyfan. That makes sense to me. And the year we were stuck under it with it going full blast was in Jan. 2001-2002 so "wild1ride" you understood where I was coming from;)

Well they still have the waterfall when its turned on. Is been on for the last month or so... so I dont see why it wont be on when you go. Hope you have a great time when you go, and look for me when you get there

I remember getting stuck by this and getting wet - but I also remember everytime ther was a "logjam" it would stop so I assumed it was being controlled by the cm's running the ride.

Is it right before you enter the scene with the big boat in it outside? Because if that is it, it was on when I went there about 6 days ago. I never remembered it from my past 3 trips, but it was there on Thanksgiving. It was more of a trickle and didn't get you soaked, just a little wet.
