Splash Mountain Theme

I don't have anything against the ride, I just don't think that the movie that they used is the best that they could've.
It's not the best movie, but the best movies don't necessarily make the best rides. Splash Mountain is great not because of the IP choice, but because of its inventive storytelling among other aspects.

Changing the IP won't make the ride better, in my opinion. And it might even make it worse. Zip a dee doo dah is an iconic Disney song and Splash wouldn't be the same without it.

That's a fair opinion, and even if the ride never changes, I was just curious if people had any ideas for a different usage of that ride.

Reposting from the other thread-

I'm really surprised Splash Mountain hasn't been rethemed after all this time given all the controversy surrounding Song of the South. I actually thought about that during my last trip to MK a few days ago. You'd need something that both involves water in some fashion and is fitting for Frontierland (so no Little Mermaid, Moana, exc). The only thing I could think of that might work is Pocahontas. But that isn't exactly their hottest property so I'd be surprised to see them retheme a ride around it.

So I think the reason the ride stays the same is that there aren't very many viable options for new themes, and none that would make the ride any more popular, so why spend money changing it?

Many people think that the Splash Mountain characters are original to DL/WDW/TDL, as so few have actually seen the film. Having said this, Splash doesn't need SOTS to exist in its current state. There is no doubt that the original stories and film exist, but the Brer characters have become so ingrained into the parks' foundation, I couldn't imagine them not being around in their own attraction. Having the critters is almost as iconic to me as the Haunted Mansion or POTC.

That being said, I appreciate and respect your opinion. Were they to ever retheme Splash, they would have to do something thematically appropriate. Princess and the Frog comes to mind, but that film is sadly forgotten by most. Another option would be to finally build Western River Expedition, but POTC might take away from that. It's an interesting concept to toy with.

What do you feel is wrong with the ride ?
Um, hello it's based off a completely ancient movie that no one has ever heard about! Heck the movie is a racist film supporting slavery, and show slaves in a fun nonsensical light while the whites live in a carefree wondrous joy. You can even find nasty stereotypes of various races inside the ride itself. Why it's absolutely appalling! Its perhaps the worst idea to have ever come out of Disney.

I say we retheme the ride to something kid friendly, adult friendly, race friendly, religion friendly, gender friendly, and sexual orientation friendly by making it into a giant field that anyone can use for any purpose they feel is necessary.

Or something along those lines ;):p:D

I would change Brer Rabbit to a multi-cultural, gender-neutral protagonist who defeats Brer Fox News because that'll make everything better. :p

Once again another correction. It's based on a movie that was based on the stories of Uncle Remus which btw was read to me as a child.

Why would Disney change a ride that is one of their most successful? Should they change Pirates to a Moana ride? No. Haunted mansion to a frozen ride? No. These rides work for a reason, and Splash is up there with them. It's a masterpiece of a ride, any complaints about it would be mere nitpicks. Why would they waste money to fix something that works extremely well when they can fix or change a ton of broken things or build stuff in empty space?

@Hunter Parks You mentioned that an Epic Mickey ride would be great, which I agree! But it's not based on popular IP, the stuff in Epic Mickey is way more unknown than the theming in Splash. Does that mean stuff like the Blot, Mad Doctor, and Horace Hoarsecolar should be forgotten? No not at all. If Disney can find a creative and successful way of showcasing their obscure IPs, good on them! :)

@Brer Oswald You do make a great point, but I was just making a suggestion about a choice that Disney had made that I wasn't crazy about.
This choice was made an extremely long time ago and has made a lot of people happy, and it has been good for MK. Besides, hardly anybody knows what SM is based on, so it's not a racism issue in the slightest. So I have two questions for you. First, have you ever enjoyed a ride on splash mountain? Secondly, you mentioned any other Disney movie would work instead of SotS, so can you list five movies with reasoning behind it that could replace Splash mountain?
