If Disney bungles the execution, well, that's a different issue. Time will tell.

A flume drop (twice) in the Louisiana bayou is always going to seem a bit weird, but I agree that the quality of the ride itself is far more important than the theme. It's difficult to retrofit a ride built for a different theme to something new, though, and Disney's recent track record doesn't give me very high hopes. Especially considering this is being done on relatively short notice and when Disney has been hemorrhaging money for months.

I really hope they will prove me wrong, though.

Feel free to stop reading and posting.
But I just told you how funny it is! Seriously I apologize to anyone, I just see bigger fish to fry than a ride being changed(for the record I always liked the ride as it is, and would be happy if they found a way to keep it as is, but I truly think this is a business choice in more than a few ways)
On a different topic, one of the big differences between the world from when the ride premiered to that of today lies in technology. Back when Splash debuted, Disney could put it out there, and other than the dwindling few who saw Song of the South when it was in circulation, we could see it and judge the ride just on what it was a ride, and only that because there was really no easy way to see it for most people But now, you go ride it, and if your curious and have a smart phone, a rabbit hole later (pardon the pun) you have seen clips read about the controversy of the film. I think if we didn't have the access to Song of the South today that we do, if access to it was still only controlled by Disney it might not be the issue it is.

Some people are easily offended. But when enough people express their feelings that something is offensive, we should pause to consider their feelings.

The cut off point for "enough people" is too subjective to be an actual value.

Changing the theme does nothing to harm the attraction

It's not my favourite ride, but I strongly disagree with this notion.

After thinking about it and splash being my favorite ride (I actually worked in Frontierland too) it’s a good change. The soundtrack to PatF is one of the best and It’ll fit really nice in Disneyland. Kids don’t even know what Song of the South is anymore and At the end of the day, it’s a theme park ride

I said this in another thread, but as someone who has seen Song of the South and has studied American History it has always been baffling to me that that film is still represented at the Disney parks.

Disney won't release the film, and for good reason. Here is what Walter Francis White (NAACP president 1929-1955) had to say about it when the film was released:

"The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People recognizes in Song of the South remarkable artistic merit in the music and in the combination of living actors and the cartoon technique. It regrets, however, that in an effort neither to offend audiences in the north or south, the production helps to perpetuate a dangerously glorified picture of slavery. Making use of the beautiful Uncle Remus folklore, Song of the South unfortunately gives the impression of an idyllic master-slave relationship which is a distortion of the facts."

Also, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is based on a song called Zip C--N (derogatory word for a black person).

Sign this petition! ! !

Songs of the South is problematic as Disney sugar-coated the relationships of white people and former black slaves displaying them in a positive and content manner. A harmful, blatant lie!

Splash Mountain is based on stories written by slaves.
Folktale. A crucial part of black history that should not be forgotten. Songs of the South used these same stories, which are not problematic, however, the material was massively mishandled. Splash mountain honored these stories correctly, leaving out what made Songs of the South problematic and has been a piece of American culture ever since.

Disney’s announcement of removing Splash Mountain with the intention of retheming it to Princess and The Frog is a slap in the face to all black Americans.

Disney is limiting the presence of black culture and achievement
within the park. They are taking the cheap approach, instead of making an additional great attraction honoring Black Americans. One attraction surrounding black culture does not need to be removed for another, Black Americans have been limited for far too long! Removing Splash Mountain puts a limit on the presence of Black Stories within Disney!

There is absolutely no reason why there cannot be two completely that celebrate black culture and achievement. Disney has a long record of hiring a low percentage of minorities, they are hoping we ignore the real issues with this corporate charade Disney is selling us short, don't let them get away with it!

BLACK LIVES MATTER!

So... impugning Marty justifies impugning Tony?

You know that Marty was just a greedy hack?

And then that makes Tony one, too?

Do you not see the great lapses in logic here?
Regrettably, yes. Marty and now Tony have attacked fans, in Marty’s case, and provided cover for whatever changes the company wants to make.

What really sucks is that log flume rides in general really stank.

Don’t try telling me Dudley’s is a good ride. Dollywood’s log flume ride goes through nice scenery, but it’s totally unthemed. And at the local amusement parks, the ride is always unthemed AND ugly. Splash Mountain was really the only good flume ride in the world. I pray that “Tiana’s Great Journey” or whatever will be up to par. If it is, I will forgive and move on with my life.

Still doesn’t change the fact that this mob rule is dangerous.
