That's right! Splash Mountain will finally arrive in Disneyland Paris' Frontierland.

It will go where the Critter Corral and the Frontierland train station stand today. The petting farm and the Pocahontas playground will get the old heave-ho, while the depot is moved a few yards up the track.

I know for a fact that the weather is an issue in Europe, but then again, it's also an issue in Japan and they have a Splash Mountain there. That's why the precautions taken in Japan (like putting the load area completely indoors) will also be placed in France.

One question, though: should the ride be more like CA's version (single-file logs and the music performed in a playful orchestra style) or FL and Japan's versions (side-by-side logs and the music performed in a country-western style)?

*clears throat*

YORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSS! well my somewhat disjointed view of europe is that well - they hate brits and we hate the french - therefore single seating would be (safer). I remember the arguement in spanish that i had with some moron that wouldnt budge up on pirates 2 years ago.... :\

Plus, when you freeze into your seat when you go down the drop in that 18 degree weather, it would be easier to pry out the riders in a single-file log rather than the side by side boats.

Wow! Those are some strong words. Why are you so negative about this?

Well, I think I will go with the single-seater arrangement, then, it looks like. But I don't think it gets so cold that it turns everyone and everything frozen solid. Remember what I said? Japan's got a Splash Mountain and it can get pretty cold there, too. I said any precautions used in Japan will be enforced in France, as well. I hope the freezing comments were just sarcastic jokes. I mean, I understand it gets pretty cold in Europe, but still...

Yeah, I don't want to rehash the same argument we had about this a couple months ago earlier in this same forum thread -- your never going to have a Splash Mountain in France where it gets MUCH colder than in Japan, and where the cost of maintaining any kind of ride that causes freezing with expansion and contraction of the cement is more expensive than building the ride itself. Have you ever visited DLPR during the winter?? People run from from indoor attraction to indoor attraction wearing their down parkas. A water ride isn't going to be on their interest list. What's more, there is snow and freezing weather in Paris from November through March - it has the same climate of, say, Detroit Michigan.

i jest - we love each other really :lookaroun its just - well sarcasm never comes over tooo well on a forum  they werent meant to be harsh by no stretch of the imagination :p us brits just hate the european goverment as they are trying to (well were trying to) get rid of the pint! (as in a pint of milk) and have it as litres.... then theres the euro - where we can all pretty much say i told you so, its still weak against the pound - so ner..... (but ill stop here as im stooping onto politics!)

...the argument in spanish is fact however - they didnt want to sit at the edge :lookaroun

heheheheh trust me - england has log flume rides! its not *that cold* in the winter - we are used to it. Allthough tssuards group closes from october till march - incidentally we also have this: http://www.thorpepark.co.uk/explore_the_park/tidal_wave/tidal_wave.asp which gets you soaked - and is almost as wet as dudley do right  So the tempreture argument - is - well petty if you ask me.... ;) - my response to the cm's at universal when they were looking at me funny as i was in my sandals, shorts and tshirt and it was torrential down pour - was pfffft this is nothing! i live in scotland! it rains here for WEEKS! i prefer log flume rides where its just single file imho - i have long legs to stat off with and have to break them in order to get into splash mountain :lookaroun

over dramatic - soon due to global warming we will be in the tropics baby  ive been in the winter months and it was sunny, dry yet cold and crisp - which is kinda fun - a water ride could in theory be out of season then or make it a roller coaster come flume thing like dudley do right but on a much grander scale

I think that line may be just a little bit too melodramatic, don't you think? Besides, the whole Splash Mountain thing was just an idea. I don't think it will really happen either; it'd just be nice if it did.

according to the everso insightful labour goverment (who want to charge us on top of road tax to use the busiest roads in the uk )

That statement is valid (even though only 10-12% of the worlds pollution is from cars)

Scuse me, I think we're getting a little off topic here. Can we get back to discussing Splash please?

I think you should have side-by-side seating like in WDW. Also, it gets cold in Tokyo, WDW, and DL. I've never been to France, so I do not know first hand how cold it gets. But I've worn a winter coat in Florida, along with a hat, scarf, and gloves. It gets cold at every Disney park at one point or another.

In the original master plan,Splash Mountain was indeed planned where the current theatre is, across from the Critter Corral. The weather and finance have been two issues holding it back, but there are a number of rumours of a new version coming as a water coaster, but I'll only believe it when construction starts.

I think Splash already has a bit of water coaster in it. It happens when you go down into the Laughing Place. Here you shoot down and then up before slowing down. Or maybe it's just a Master Blaster-type slide.

It gets MUCH colder in Paris! When we went in Dec. 2004 it was below freezing. I live in the UK, and am used to cold weather, but this was even colder! We literally were rushing from one attraction to another. We really enjoyed it though - it added to the Christmassy feel. However, if I had known in advance how cold it would be, I would have taken ski wear for all of us.

I Don't understand how the Weather can be that much of a problem - as Western Europe is Full of theme parks with log flumes/Water Rides - some that get you VERY wet, admittedly though those parks are seasonal and DLP is still open in Winter - but Im sure the Designers could come up with an idea - where people only get a light spraying of water from the splash - and installing human sized drying Tunnels at the exit (Like Valhalla at Blackpool Pleasure Beach)

I think Splash should Definately Be DLP next big move

That's what I'm talking about. I mean, it gets pretty cold in Japan, too. I was thinking that all they would have to with France's Splash Mountain is just use many of the tactics used in Japan, including reducing the splash and having as much of the ride indoors as possible (including the load area). In fact, I think some of the strategies you mentioned are already in place in Japan's Splash Mountain.

Here's an idea: with all the rumors of the proposed Splash Mountain being a water coaster, how about having the entrance to the Laughing Place be a bit of a roller coaster. You drop into the tunnel and race past the beehives and slow to a regular crawl when you pass by Brer Bear with his nose in the beehive.

I'm sure there are some major concerns about freezing and how it affects the ride. The constant expansion from freezing would definatly cause some problems. Even if they had to heat it, it would be a humongus cost. You also have to remember this park is totally setup differently stockholderwise. The oriental land company can throw around money while disneyland paris is made up of governmental agencies, a king, and disney itself.
