Splash and Space

I've heard Space Mountain uses different cars at Disneyland? You ride side by side? Is there any more leg room, because I'm over 6'3 and WDW is just a little bit tight. Also can anyone tell me how Splash Mountain differs? thanks for any help.

Space Mountain rides side by side in Disneyland.

Splash Mountain rides one behind the other (much like the Matterhorn or WDW's version of Space Mountain).

I'm not sure about the leg room however.

ok thanks I'm guessing it has to have more leg room because you sit up higher. Also is the Splash Mountain ride alot different than WDW?

Splash is my favorite ride in WDW and probably my least favorite in DL. In WDW, no matter what the wait is, I try to ride several times each day I'm in the MK. In DL, I rode it once in 3 days. =\
In Disneyland, it's very abbreviated, moves much quicker, and I didn't like the seating at all. I had a stranger practically sitting in my lap.
But believe me, everything else in DL will blow you away and totally make up for the lack of a decent Splash Mountain. Especially their Space Mtn. It was amazing, and it does have a lot more legroom than WDW's.

Thank goodness about the leg room, Space Mountain was very uncomfortable for me this year at WDW. Yeah I will probably be dissapointed as I love WDW Splash Mountain. But oh well I will still be at a Disney park so It will be great no matter what.

Thanks for the info

I've discovered something about DL's and WDW's respective Spaces and Splashes. DL's Space has double-sided seating and WDW's is single file. And it's vice-versa for Splash (single file for DL and double-siding for WDW).

It should also be noted that both Space and Splash at Tokyo have the double-sided seating.

Just to provide closure on this...
1) Yes, there is more legroom in DL's Space cars than MK's. As has been pointed out, MK's is more like bucket seating, whereas DL's is the traditional side-by-side situation. There's more legroom than in BTMR, for example.
2) Yes, you do ride one-behind-the-other in Splash however it sounded like some folks had not been on DL's since the log reconfiguration. Now, no one is sitting in anyone's lap, there's one person per seat. However, since it is also like bucket seating, your legs are out in front of you which, depending on how tall you are, could mean they are semi parallel with the person in front of you. No one's legs are gonna be touching or anything, but you could look to your left and see someone else's legs.
3) Being a DL native, I *personally* like MK's Splash better also, but mostly because I feel it tells the story more sequentially and more logically. Also, there's more time to tell the story b/c the logs move slower. This was intended b/c after DL's Splash opened, people complained that it went too fast. So when designing MK's, they intentionally slowed it down. That very reason is also why some people like DL's better than MK's - b/c it goes faster. So to each his own. There are some effects in MK's that we don't have also (the walking Brer Rabbit comes to mind). Also, this is one case where MK's AA's are generally better than ours b/c our figures came mostly from America Sings whereas MK's were designed for the attraction.

Hope that helps.

I think the original reason they went with the double-sided logs is that both this version and Tokyo's version were both in development at the same time. I think the WDW version originally wanted to use the DL version of logs, but the Tokyo version had the logs in the double-sided logs due to people sitting in proximity to each other (as is DL's case) not being part of Japanese customs. When the WDW people heard this, they decided to use TDL's seating as well because in addition to the customs part, it also involved bigger capacities.

Yeah, that sounds entirely plausible - I had forgotten that TDL's and MK's were being developed at the same time - and now that you mention it does sorta ring a bell.

TDL's Splash complex is just huge - amazingly complex. I think the Japanese must have some sort of fascination with infrastructure (maybe being such a tiny country) since the Splash complex seems about as (maybe more) complex as their Star Tours facility.

I'd have to re-watch my video, but I believe the show scenes themselves are identical to MK's. Not totally sure, but that's my recollection. Don't really like the way the last drop is position though. MK's is the best in that regard. DL's would be good if you could see our Castle behind the trees :-) But MK's gives you that classic view. TDL's? If you look to the forward-left you can see the Castle, but your dead center view is Rivers of the Far West, with BTMR on the forward-right. It was just kinda weird.
