Just wondering what people think of this dinner show.

Also, for those of you who have been to it, I understand that it is an open air event, but is the seating area covered in any way to block the sun or in case it rains?

Thanks for any information!

Hoop dee doo is way better. But it's nice and enjoyable - much more slow paced and dancing focused.

I really enjoyed the food. But it's a bit more eclectic by Disney standards.

Seating is covered.

Thank you all for the responses. I really appreciate your advice.

I have been to Hoop Dee Doo the last several trips so I was looking to switch things up a bit. Hmmmm.

My parents took me when I was really young. We never went back, so I guess that's saying something. :p Considered it again in planning my adult trips and was always deterred by the food pics. It just doesn't look like anything special at all. :/

I disagree with the other posters. My wife and I have attended the show multiple times. We have seen the regular and Christmas versions. We feel the show is great - very Disneyfied. We have never been to Hawaii. My wife loved the food, I was OK with it. For me it had nothing to do with the quality, I just do not like some of the dishes.

There is a Christmas version of the luau? Do they still have it? How Christmassy is it? Thanks!

We found the show drawn out, the food was ok but nothing special. The night we went there were delays due to thunder storms. I would agree with others and do Hoop de Doo instead.

I know my view is in the minority, but I also prefer the Spirit of Aloha. I think the setting is beautiful, almost romantic even. After the show enjoy a wonderful stroll along the beach at the Poly looking across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the MK. End your evening at the Tambu lounge on the 2nd floor of the Poly and it is hard to imagine a better evening. Personally, I find the Hoop about as enjoyable a a re-run of the old Hee-Haw show, and the food to be marginal at best. I far prefer the offerings at the Spirit of Aloha. But that is the great thing about WDW. They offer something for everyone!

It isnt our most favorite show on site, but if youve never been it is worth going. The food is O.K. , nothing exceptional, but you arent really going for the food, its the show that matters. The seating was fine, I think everyone has a decent view of the performers but the front seats are worth getting. There are some amazing parts to the show, (Fire dance), even though the script is blah. It can be cancelled due to inclement weather, we had one show cancelled because it was too cold. Worth the money?? Yeah, I'd spend it to see it again with someone whos never been.

This use to be my favorite dinner show, besides hoop dee doo. It's gotten kinda cheesy and boring (in my opinion) over the past few years. Not as much dancing and fire twirling. They changed the story awhile back. The food is still decent. Just not my "to do" anymore

I've been to Hawaii and actual luaus a number of times, so Spirit of Aloha was never really on our family's radar - my father said he refused to pay for a facsimile of the real thing. I finally went last February because a member of our group went when he was younger, remembered really enjoying it, and requested it be added to the itinerary. While we had fun, it isn't something I would pay to do again, and for all that the fire dancers were touted, they only appeared briefly at the end (though they are very cool). The show itself is pretty corny. I will say that everyone seemed to enjoy their food (I have food allergies that meant I had to have a special menu, but I was happy with what I ate as well).

I am a fan of the show. I take Polynesian dance in my state of NJ from a great Samoan Family (yea, just said this on the Moana board, lol) and it all started due to this show so it holds a special place in my heart. Of course, I could do without the cheesiness of the 'story' and would prefer just the dancers. Perhaps with all the changes being made to the Poly they may think about changing the show.

The dancers are so good and energetic and the Fire Knife guy is great. The luaus that I have seen (based on the family I dance with...I have never been to any of the islands) usually have the Fire Knives near the end as well.

I think if you have never been to the show, you should check it out.
