Speedway at Magic Kingdom

I haven't browsed the Disneyland forums so I wouldn't know if people share the same feelings about Autopia as what some people have said about Tomorrowland Speedway. I wouldn't exactly get rid of it because most young kids are too young or too short to go on those go-kart places so I mean, where else can they drive a car down a race track at a young age? Video games don't count! So I know I'm in the minority of wanting to keep it because I seem to ride it every time I go. Why? It's driving for leisure, not driving to work or some other priority you have to worry about (Food, clothing, etc.) You could go on a leisure drive granted but you're wasting gas and money with that. With the Speedway, it's driving without having to pay for gas in a way. I mean, I never got to experience being able to drive that car down the Speedway with my father right by my side smiling, laughing and enjoying ourselves as a young kid. So that's probably why I've done ridden every time I go. But retheming it to Tron or Cars or Sugar Rush wouldn't hurt, at all.

The problem is that it's a crowd eater and enough people still love it. Hard to justify a huge investment to replace it. I'm sure it'll eventually be changed but probably as part of a mass TL overhaul.
Agreed. I actually don't mind the attraction or its placement I just think it needs some updating. I can't imagine an electric go-kart costs THAT much, grab a bunch of those, put a fiberglass "race car" body on them, put some sort of theming into them, replace the topiaries with some scenes from movies and I think you'd have a great attraction.

There would be a lot more room for a new ride in Tomorrowland if the Speedway was taken out. I think Disney should put in a new E-ticket attraction there because it's not like the Speedway is the most popular ride in the park.
By that logic MK would only have 1 attraction. Not every attraction need to be "the most popular", you need some fillers and crowd eaters to make the park flow.

Since it's by Fantasyland and the Tea Cups, why not make it a cool Alice in Wonderland dark ride. DL and DLP all have more than one type of Alice in Wonderland attraction. (I'm really jealous). Besides, it's my favorite movie and I wish it had more attention.

my kids love it! i realize it's neither fantasyland nor tomorrowland themed, but that doesn't stop my grandkids from giggling and laughing out loud the whole time they are driving.
they can't believe they get TO DRIVE!
isn't that what MK is about? kids laughing out loud?
yeah, it's old, boring to adults and takes a lot of space. so?
based on wait times, kids love it. and it is utilized.
i hate wasting time in line for this, but it's what they want to do, and shouldn't we be listening to them since many of us go for the purpose of making the kids happy?
i wish they would somehow shorten the wait time, i've waited an hour for that thing!
i wouldn't object to making the cars lighting mcqueen and tow mater and finn, etc, but that would make my wait time even longer!!!! but, again, the kids would eat it up

Update it please! Dollywood has electric cars. Either change it to the CARS cars or make it a Sugar Rush w/ Venelope type ride. Something needs to be done. It is a classic, but I don't understand why they haven't done anything w/ it! Does it ever go down for refurb? or just to paint the cars? Slap a few decals on them to make it something.
My boys love it! It's a right of passage when they get tall enough to drive by themselves.;)
We skipped it this time though. The usual 20 minute wait was more like 45-50 minutes! The queue was wrapped/roped around the corner! I'd never seen it like that before!

To me I would hate to see it transform into a Cars theme. I love original rides and this one has been here since the beginning, hardly touched. It was an was part of the original image of DL, it was even in the first concept book. Not even SM, HM, PoTC, were apart of its very first image. I hate to see it go, but I hate to see it stay in that condition. If anything, they need to spice a few things up , change the car motors to electric, add some futuristic type decor, and change the appearance of the cars to something less common. It would revamp it enough to make it worthy to stay and attract a slightly larger crowd. I still don't get why they haven't done anything all these years about that leaded gas. Since Disney is "environmentally friendly" you'd think they change that polluting gas for something less harmful.

There would be room for multiple rides. One of my biggest beefs with the Speedway is how huge that plot of land is, and how inappropriately used it is. You could fit almost two Space Mountains on that plot! If it were me, I'd make it two smaller dark rides and one E-ticket.

Our Speedway is the crappiest.

That's right. It's going anywhere.

I would, however, like to see the cars eventually be upgraded to the electric cars they use at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Unlike the current cars they don't sound like a hundred lawn mowers all running at once, and to the rider they sound more like a "real" race car.

Add a new Tomorrowland attraction. Racing doesn't feel futuristic to me, for many apparent reasons. And make the ride original. Not every attraction has to be tied into a movie.

When you're competing with Universal, where just about every attraction IS tied to a movie, I kinda think it does XD

There are several popular attractions without movie tie-ins (Space Mountain, EE, etc). They all do very well without those tie-ins, so I believe that a ride without a movie tie-in can do well. You're entitled to your opinion, however.

DS loved this (I am hoping he is over it this time) I make DH take him on, as the time I went with him I am sure I was whip lashed! from side to side banging. I must admit I did laugh all the way. But yes they could do so much with this, and still keep it available to the youngsters.

Haunted Mansion was actually an original Disneyland idea, and is seen in the first sketch of Disneyland by Herb Ryman. The concept of Mansion just changed through the years, but it was an original idea.

I'm on team "keep it" for all the good reasons already mentioned. But let's put some tomorrow in Tomorrowland! I'd like to see electric cars, cause the current ones literally stink. I'd love to see Meet The Robinson's get a little Tomorrowland love. Maybe a futuristic driving curse with hybrid cars invented by Lewis...
