Special Memories for a 3 year old?

We are taking out 6 and 3 year old at the end of this week. I know without a doubt that my 6 year old will remember every last detail about our trip. I sure my 3 year old will remember bits and pieces once we return home. I truly think that a child gets the most out of a Disney trip right around 4ish and older. That being said, don't take my advise...I would bring any child at any age :)

Yea, I don't expect him to remember the whole trip. We are taking a huge family trip when he'll be 4 with my husband's crazy family, so we wanted our turn with him alone before doing that.

Our 3 year old will be taking her 4th trip to WDW this June! We took her twice as a 2yo, and while she may not remember many of the details, we definitely will!

Her favorites were Small World (and pretty much everything in Fantasyland) and the parades. It took her a while to warm up to the characters up close, but after a few days she got over it. Disney Jr Live at DHS is a big hit with the little ones, as is Nemo the Musical at AK. He'll love it all!

We have taken our daughter each year around her birthday. She will be turning three in August and will be making her third trip to DW. While she was younger than your son is now it's not so much the memories he will remember or you will try to make but the ones you will have. For instance no matter how special we tried to make the trips and tried to make memories for her the best memory is not one we planned or one that she remembers, however, my wife and I do. We just so happened to be in DHS trying to kill time before our reservation at the Brown Derby when we went to the animator's studio to see what the waits were like for characters. The only charachter out was Mickey and the wait was insane so we decided to leave. As were leaving we saw Jake had just come out but appeared to have a long line as well and we could not afford to wait as we would risk losing our ADR. A cast member informed us, however, the line was not for Jake and that Jake was all alone with no wait. Jake proceeded to dance with my daughter for approximately five minutes. Then out of the door behind my daughter appeared Pluto and Minnie, who spontaneously joined in dancing behind her. When she turned and saw the two her face lit up and it was like she had her own Disney Character party if only for a little while. My daughter likely doesn't remember this moment but her mother and I got fantastic pictures and video. It is a memory my wife and I will tell my daughter about for years to come. Though my daughter constantly reminds us how much she loves riding IASW, she is even at the point of having to listen to the song constantly in our car.

One final note, it is has been interesting from year to year to watch how my daughter reacts to different attractions, characters and the like that she saw the year before. We cannot wait to see how she reacts this year, esp. since she constantly asks to watch the videos of her last two trips.

That's an incredible story! I hope we're remotely as lucky!

I took a 3yo. I didn't do anything special memory-wise because I figure its highly unlikely he'll remember any of it. And you never know WHAT kids will remember. Probably the hotel pool.

But I did take him on Dumbo, which was exciting for me as it was my virgin Dumbo ride. :D I just did pretty much whatever he felt like doing. :)

Definitely characters!!! We took both children for their first visits at 3. Of course, they had a lot of interaction with the characters...meals, in the park, etc...
DS (1990) played hide-n-seek w/Goofy in the maze in Birthdayland/Starland; had a sword fight w/Captain Hook and Mr. Smee; walked around a bit holding hands w/Minnie; ate breakfast w/Pluto (Pluto sat at our table and encouraged him to eat.); rode Peter Pan's Flight about five times
DD (1993) couldn't see enough characters; she'd move before my husband knew where she was going; Dopey held on to her while he signed autograph books...wouldn't let her go...we got a beautiful photo of that; found Beast and Belle on Mickey Avenue with no one around and Belle picked her up for the photo; Ursula scared the out of her (literally) in Voyage of the Little Mermaid; rode IASW about 9 times because that's what she wanted to ride, along with Dumbo (During this visit, DS got to try and pull the Sword from the Stone.)

Riding the adult rides wasn't important then; we didn't want to do 'baby swap' because it still meant we'd ride it alone...so the trip was for and about the child/children...their pick of rides, lots of autographs and characters, and a few special souvenirs.

On our last trip in September our DD4 was a month shy of 4. We celebrated at the "World". She wore her b-day button all week. We stayed at AOA in a LMR. We went to Akershus for breakfast(favorite meal in which our server gave DD a b-day cupcake without us asking for it!) & Chef Mickey's for dinner. Her favorite rides were PP, HM, IASW, & the teacups. She loved the parades & Disney Junior Live! We also went to MNSSHP in which she got to dress up as Cinderella in her wedding dress. We had a great time & DD keeps asking when can we go back?!

Couple of summers ago, my oldest DD had just turned the 'big 0-3' right before our trip. First morning, we had b-fast at Crystal Palace with Winnie and friends, her reaction when they got to our table...she was almost jumping out of her skin with excitement!

Later we went to meet Mickey and Minnie in Toontown...same reaction but when Minnie started to strike a pose, DD started to do the same poses as her. It was like they were having a pose-off. Thank God we have the cam-corder rolling! We'll get lots of use of that footage when she's old enough to start dating!

We took dd last year when she was 3 and she still talks about it all the time! She's always asking when we are going back. I know for me, I will never forget her face when she saw the charachters, fireworks and the parades. Belle blew her a kiss from the parade and she talked about it for days :) Jessie also danced with her for a while at the street party and she was just amazed.
Her favourite rides were IASW, the magic carpets and dumbo. We got her a makeover too and struggled at night to get her princess dress back off her. She'd have wore it the whole time if she could have.
You'll have a fantastic time, just take lots of videos/photos as the memories are ones to keep forever.

I have a feeling it really wont be hard to make special memories without even having to try! I think character interaction in the park and atleast one character meal plus the rides, and snacks.. Taking him to swim.. I envy you my kids are 20,19,16 I don't get to see that excited, precious looks on sweet little faces anymore..:(
Wait until you have Grandkids...it's awesome!!!!
