Special diet desserts for children?

We are sailing with a little girl who was just diagnosed with Celiac disease and is also lactose intolerant. I know that the chef usually comes to the table to discuss food options, but I was just wondering what they generally offer for dessert considering she can't have very much at this point? Anyone have an idea?

My son has a dairy and nut allergy and the cruise has always made excellent deserts for him. He particularly likes the flourless chocolate cake, which is dairy and gluten free. They also have a non-dairy whipped topping which he really enjoys. They also carry various flavors of soy and rice ice cream.

Don't forget to complete the medical form prior to sailing. Also, you can ask to meet with your head server prior to the first dinner to plan out her menu for that night. What we do then is after every dinner the head server would bring us the menu for the following day and we select a meal for him that is consistent with what everyone else is having, but specially made. We also special order breakfast and lunch for him at dinner the night before, which you can pretty much have sent anywhere you want to on the ship, including at Castaway Cay.

Once the dining room is aware of allergies and any special dietary needs, they bend over backwards to make the food enjoyable and safe. Moreover, everyone on the ship receives training on accommodating and addressing food allergies. What we love about it is that once we are on the ship we know the food is taken care of, so we can relax.

I don't know anything about Celiac, but my daughter is highly lactose intolerant. We buy a big box of chewable Lactaid tablets and she hasn't had a problem in years.

Thanks, Ricky. The family we are traveling with are first-time cruisers and they just found out about her diagnosis. She's only temporarily lactose free so they are still trying to figure things out. They are hoping that the dairy won't be as much of an issue by the time we leave but the other factor is the most important. Thanks for the info!

Not really familiar with celiac but I have serious food allergies. I was hoping that the cruise line would be better than they were with my allergies (coconut and mushrooms). Mushrooms were easy to eliminate but their whipped cream is not real cream, it's coconut based. Surprisingly a lot of their food contained coconut and it was very hard on myself bc I tried to order food without but a lot of it had coconut anyway. You have to order what you want the night before and that can be difficult.
It's totally different than Disney World restaurants. I hope by the next time I go, they change some of this or I'll just bring my own whipped cream and only eat steak.
