Look closely at the thousands of triangles on Spaceship Earth that make up the giant geosphere. See those black little pores and black indentions that surround each one? Well, these are actually water transporters.

When it rains, water is collected in the various holes and travel down, dumping into the World Showcase Lagoon. :)

Hey, Jennifer!

A lot of this comes from memory (a bunch of it, I forget who tells me). Sometimes I pick it up in Disney Magazine, other times Cast Members or Guest Relations, and you can certainly pick up a bunch on the behind the scenes tours. Too bad Vault Disney is off the air...there was a LOT of stuff there. Travel Channel has some stuff, too. :)

Sometimes they move the water into World Showcase lagoon...most often what they do though is collect the water in storage tanks or some kind of aquifer... then in the summer (or whenever the lagoon water level is low) they pump the stored water into WS Lagoon.. bringing it back up to its normal level. :)

Actually, there is a misconception here. The water is always THOUGHT to be dumped into WS lagoon, but it's actually not. It's sent down the "legs" and through a filtration system where it's cleaned. From there, it gets pumped to the various waterways around the property (you can see them on the sides of roads while driving around the resort).

The waterways were originally designed as an irrigation system, but they actually help with flooding! It was actually discovered a few years ago is a really bad storm (maybe a hurricane, can't remember). )When lots of Florida was flooded during the storm, the waterways gulped up most of the water preventing water damage to most of the property!

I heard this fact from another web site (I'm pretty sure)... I always wondered why SE didn't drip heavily when I walked underneath it during a rainfall... :)
