Spaceship Earth wait time longer than Soarin? Why?

Have you not seen or been following the SSE post that has the attraction going down for remodel (2+years) around the end of this year or beginning of next? HUGE POST, don't see how you missed it. LOL

Um. You're replying to the wrong person. I just made that point.

Kind of my point. Another poster saw that SSE was going to be down and was astounded. I merely replied it won't be tomorrow. Could be "several" years. Maybe it will go down in 2020. But why close a ride if you don't have another new ride open to accommodate the crowds. Maybe it's just me but I would rather not take what the site that shall not be named says as the truth.

Erm, this rumor is coming from Marni. He's usually correct about these kind of things. Just see the wdw rumor and timeline tracker for proof.

You are quoting HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED, but Martin here has addressed the SSE refurb in another thread and said to "say your goodbyes by the end of the year". I believe that is what Wngo is referring to.

Okay. I would take the word of @marni1971 over the site that shall not be named any day. The other thread references that site in Post #1. That's why I referenced it.

This is an easy one. It's because of the fastpass plus system.

Before the fast pass plus system, SSE was NOT a past pass attraction. Remember the old paper fast pass system only had fast passes for attractions that needed it, SSE did not need it, and for the most part there was no line for SSE

Enter the fast pass plus system (FPP). When they created the FPP system, they couldn't list only the small handful of attractions that were in the paper systems, so they added ALL attractions, even the ones that DID NOT need fast pass, this created an artificial demand for all attractions, even the ones that were previously what we called walk on attractions.

I also think FPP SLOWS the throughput of a given attraction in general

FPP is why I think SSE has long wait times now.

Regarding the inflated wait times, didn't they switch entirely from using the red cards they'd give to guests, to going entirely by magic bands to verify wait times...maybe that system so far is less accurate?

I kid you not that for year SE was always a walk on all day and probably about 8 or 9 years ago we walked by and it was slammed and we were thinking it had just messed up. So I asked a CM what happened and he said "I'm in shock because I've NEVER seen this line look like this!" and we hadn't seen it like that either. But now in recent years since attendance has skyrocketed it seems rather routine for it to have a pretty long wait. This time years ago you would have never been able to convince me that there would come a time when a Fast Pass would be needed for it but it definitely gets slammed a lot these days. It's one of my favorite rides too.

We're tracking hyperinflated wait times at Animal Kingdom too. I'm pretty sure DHS is also affected. We've hired people to wait in line, to see how inaccurate the posted wait times are.

Part of it is the placement like others have mentioned. It's also the impact of FastPass Plus and the tiering. Soarin' Around the World isn't as popular now, and the third theater has helped the capacity. Plus, a lot of people are picking Test Track and Frozen for Tier 1. For Tier 2, there are fewer great options. So many pick Spaceship Earth. That slows down the Standby line for Spaceship Earth because FastPass guests just keep going past them.

Yeah, its funny how EPCOT is actually a pretty fun park when you actually experience, but it looks pretty pedestrian on paper. The FP+ line-up is just not that impressive at all. But I think that a strong appeal to EPCOT is that it has so many small hidden rides and experiences, and you can do pretty much anything without much of wait.
