Spaceship Earth overhaul

Im for the change. The only reason that I like spaceship earth is for the tradition. But I usually only go on it once a trip. But a ride like TOT, Dinosaur, or Space mountain, I can go on over and over. I'm for a new ride that will keep me excited rather than one that I'm just marking off my check list.

Let's try to keep this all to the main thread guys...we don't need two threads competing with the same subject.

Not trying to be mean, just hoping to keep all the info and debate together ;)

I've been waiting for them to change Spaceship Earth since the first time I rode it in the early '80's. I thought it was pretty boring. In fact, the first time was the only time because I thought it was too boring to wait in line again.

I'm all for Time Racers.

I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I love Disney, I like to see things new also; but sometimes I get reminiscent and like to go back to something familiar. Hopefully it will be worth the time and money that it will take.
Here comes December 28th. We will be there for a week!!!!Yessssss! Can't wait.
 :sohappy:

Who remembers the rumors that mission:space was going to be a rollercoaster type attraction? Everyone was POSITIVE that was the concept...

....i really dont take rumors like this too serioulsy until i see solid proof..and not a shadey rumor filled newspaper article about it.

I agree NOWINC, I remember M:S was supposed to be just like Superman the Escape at Magic Mountain with 400 foot tall towers. I do not mind the update at SE, as long as they do not sacrifice the quality storyline, use of anamatronics, or music. I can go to IOA for thrill rides without music and that just use movie screens.

Spaceship Earth type of rides are in extinction. This attraction offers you something that most rides cannot give you and that's education. I don't wanna sound corny but in the future I'd love my kids to learn via a Disney attraction. Not all has to be wild, fast and adrenaline.

Right on!!

Information and entertainment. To quote Homer Simpson,..."infotainment".

Disney is always carefull to generically explain history in a very balanced, general and accurate way.

I'd like to see this "spirit" continue in whatever attraction replaces it.

We call it edutainment, and we love it. I think the American Adventure is the best attraction at WDW. And SE can easilly be updated and new scenes can be added, along with new vehicles and audio.

I am in favor of a Major rehab of Spaceship Earth. I think it should be taken off line for year or so and updated technology installed. I am NOT in favor of this becoming a thrill ride. If they make this a thrill ride what is next? A roller coaster around the Castle!?!?!?!?

It really burns my biscuits that they are replacing all the great dark rides with, in my opinion, complete wastes of money like TEST TRACK. They are not thinking about giving guests great experiences any more but just getting them in, get them a quick thrill and get them out....

As I have experienced and others here have posted the quality of service at Disney parks has declined significantly and focus of Disneys design ideas have narrowed to target people with the most "disposable" income. As a couple with children in a weakened economy I know as I suspect many others here do that familys have less and less money to spend on trips to Disney parks and are having a harder and harder time affording the day to day costs of living.

Sadly I am becoming more and more critical of Disney and disappointed in the way they are designing and operating their parks and servicing their guests. I can only hope they come to their senses some day and get it right again. They are quickly moving away from Walt's vision of how the parks were to be run and closer and closer the ENRON way of doing business...Screw the little guy and reap all the benefits for themselves...

This coming from a guy who was so overwhelmed the first time he walked into the Magic Kingdom that I had to sit down to recover my self.

Sorry for the rant but I just had to vent but Spaceship Earth is one of my favorite rides.....

I definitely agree. There is room for both types of rides, but in the long run it is the slower, learning-type rides that inspire more people and leave a lasting impression.

Hello

Very well put. People have gotten so used to everything happening so quickly that people seem to need faster, quicker, bigger. Though these types of rides are fun, it is good to have some slower educational ones around.:)

might I add

And let's not forget something very important. When I stand an hous, hour and a half or even two hours in line, I really expect to get at least a five-minute ride.
