Spaceship Earth Evacuation 6 May 2018

I've heard a lot of stories where when you evacuate spaceship earth, there's a bunch of junk around, which causes extra danger if someone gets afraid and some how manages to jump out of their car.
I never believed it until now.
I guess seeing really is believing.

There's also a lot of "junk" (maintenance equipment) backstage or just out of sight in most rides as well. It's unfortunate but kind of necessary. For example, the Mummy ride building at Universal doubles as a massive storage warehouse.

That may be the reason they give but, I would think they would be much more concerned about people falling between the vehicles and possibly on the track. I don't think that would be real pretty.

Yup......
We did the Spaceship Earth walk down attraction in July of 1982 1983.
It stopped just as we were entering the Sky Room.
After about 45 minutes we were escorted down by CM's.
Back then the lighting along the stairs was nearly non existent.
At least on the route we took.
Our Daughter was five and fell asleep before we started down.
I had to carry her all the way.
Today someone may have to carry me down if that happens. :in pain:

Interesting. I would love to see what was behind those curtains! I've read that the old scenes are still behind there. And at the top, there used to be a space station and space men, and a girl sitting in a window, right above where the cars come out of the accent. I've read that they're sitll there but painted black. Unfortunately my eyes never adjust in time. I'd have been snapping pictures of the ceiling!
It looks hella creepy though. But I'd love to go and explore and see what else they've dumped in there. I wonder why all the building supplies are there?

If I'm looking for the space station on my ride through, I'll either ride with one eye closed so that eye stays adjusted to the darkness (try this next time when you stumble to the bathroom in the middle of the night), or make sure to cover over the bright screen in front of me so my eyes stay better adjusted to the dark.

I have seen the space station outline several times but can never make out anything else unfortunately.

Understandable since in July of 1982 Epcot was still 3 months away from opening. Got a better date perhaps?

It was 1983.
(I had to look it up since my memory sometimes lies to me)
We were at Epcots 1st 4th of July celebration.
Good, at least it is possible at that date. SSE was pretty new then so I don't think it was much of a catch all yet. But, since it is a dark ride I don't think they really gave it much of a thought back then. I was there in February of 1983. Didn't stay there (in EPCOT) very long as it was a major cluster at that time. Way more people then there were things to do at the time.

So it does still exist! Damn that's creepy and cool at the same time. I'll make sure to do that during our next trip. I want to see the creepy space station! Shame you can't make out anything else.

Wow. Looks like they have a little workshop right there in the sphere. Pretty interesting. Thanks.
I'm surprised you were able to snap a few pics. We got stuck on Men in Black at Universal last year, and as
soon as I tried to take a few shots when the lights came on I thought a version of the Men in Black were
going to tackle me. The CM's really scolded me.
