The Disneyland line has published an update for Space...

I cant remember who from WDI but, the interview covered some of the newer items to Space. When asked about what part he was excited most about the additions...he said the tunnel before lift "B" and lift "B". He said that the tunnel part would have new effects that would make the rider feel dissoriented. (I will try to reprint the episode)

More effects are being added and adjusted.

Items seen backstage....
At least 9 disco balls boxes (empty but had the foam support still in it)
More than just a couple of Flat screen panels
Lots of tracking spot lights (with color?)
A very large wooden crate that said "ride status update board" (possibly the old "squares moving by" just before the turnstiles and the last chicken exit.

Looking into Space..WDI has been adjusting some effects...Next to the ride track in some areas there are several vertical rods then at the top of the rod are covered in white plastic (for protection) and you can see many different colors "strobing" all in "slave" to one another. Could be for "Rockin Mtn."?

Thanks for the update! I'm getting more and more excited about Space, and I really hope that Rock Mtn. rumor is true.

I am curious if it will be really dark in there again, like it used to be, or if they'll keep it pretty bright.

Curious... can they get this done fast and safe for a July opening???

(interesting things getting installed..)
yes. All they are doing now is theming--in theory they could start testing the ride while they finish up the theming. Matt Ouimet is doing everything possible to get Space Mountain open by July 17th.

What's in RM ? Does anyone have concept art ? It sounds similar to BTM... Any info would be appreciated !

Rock Mountain was an idea for a "nighttime" version of Space Mountain. Basically, at certain times, the ride will get a different feel to it - different effects, rock music, etc.

Rock Mountain (or ROCKet Mountain, as I prefer) is similar in theming to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at the Disney Studios in Paris in theming, and the presence of 9 disco balls in the new mountain may confirm this attraction--I'm all for it; it's like two new rides in one :)

Or it may confirm really bad star effects.

They use disco balls for the star effects, so it may be nothing more than that.

Maybe, but my understanding of this version of Space Mountain is that the effects are anything but cheap with the aim of making a much more realistic space flight.

If they wanted to make a realistic space flight, they could make a 24 hour version of Mission Space.

But anyway, why isn't fiber optics used for the star effects?

Rock n' Rollercoaster meets space mountain???!! Guys im a bit apprehensive about this. to me both rides are great separate attractions. Where RnR is about cool, high octane loud thrills, sm has a clamer queuing atmosphere, and the ride itself is almost scary (not quite)...hmm ill have to keep my eye on this one...

I tend to agree the concept is a little odd. I don't actually see it as "two rides in one", but rather it's like only getting the true Space Mountain experience available to you for only half the time. Seems kind of silly to me. Of course, Disney will probably promote this as literally two attractions. :brick:
