I did a thread search, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Are there any plans in the near or far future to make the same change to WDW's Space Mountain as they did to DL's? Also I found this interesting thing about Rockit Mountain for the DL's Space Mountain...here's the link. Thanks fer answers!

There are rumours (now coming from good sources on these boards) that WDW/WDI are looking at a rehab to Floridas Space Mountain. Nothing radical - more like the DL makeover. Doubtful on a new layout, or even new track though.

That grad nite link at DLC is the first admission by Disney about Rockit Mountain, BTW. As if it was a secret... :)

Disneyland has talked about it. When I was there in August they had a wall board near the exit, about the new space mountain and the two seprate effects, with Rockit Mountain coming summer of 2006. Talked about two different effects.

Hiya DisneyBuff; It`s long been talked about (Rockit Mountain) - I meant the first time TWDC, WDI or DLC have admitted to the public officially it`s existance.

What's Rockit Mountain??:veryconfu
A cross between DL's normal Space Mountain and RnRC at the Paris Studio park.

It's basically the same ride, with a different soundtrack and lighting package.

The way the cast members down at DL explained it its the same ride with a laser lightshow and Rock N' Roll soundtrack in the background. Its supposed to take place after sunset at the ride and the name on the marquee will actually switch from "Space Mountain" to "Rockit Mountain". After riding the DL Space Mountain, the upgrade although considered slight by some is 100% a PLUS! I love the new Space Mountain and rode it 7 times last time I went down. I'd love to WDW to get the same amount of love.

Rockit Mountain is Space Mountain at night with a different set of interior lights, effects and a completely different Rock-composed Soundtrack, hence the name, "Rockit Mountain."

Sweet! I have a question, does the RnRC in Paris have Areosmith in it just curios. And Rockit Moutain should use the finale of Bohemian Rhapsody I love that! :sohappy:

Yuppers. Check the first response.

As Marni so eloquently wrote, there are rumours (some from credible sources) that an update is possible for WDW's space mountain. As for right now, I'd expect a really nice rehab (i.e. updated effects, smoother track, etc.)

That said, nothing is confirmed. It could happen. It could not. Nothing is guaranteed at Disney until you see construction start.

I dont really get it. Are you all saying that in the day time it would be the regular Space Mountain and then at night a light show goes off and the name changes to Rockit Mountain?

I am not sure how I feel about this. Guess I'm the only one that thinks "Rockit Mountain" sounds kinda... goofy.

No they mean after sunset the sound track and lighting inside the ride would change for a whole new feel for the ride. It would almost be a totally new ride!

The idea is great. It boosts the re-rideablity of the ride. Think about it, you can get two different experences from the same attraction. I put it up their with ToT4 upgrade. Makes the ride more enjoyable.

Well what if you get there for only one day and feel nostalgic and want to ride the old Space Mountain but your stupid relatives want to break tradition and start out at Epcot instead which I like but not as much as the Magic Kingdom and we end up going to there instead and end up getting to Magic Kingdom later and miss the original space mountain and have to end up going to Rockit Mountain instead of the other one which is the one you wanted to go to.

The idea is kind of like the bowlings alleys around here. During the day it's just a regular bowling alley but at night they turn the overhead lights off, put the blacklighting on, use flourescent pins, and turn on the rock and roll music. I think Rockit is a great idea. Kind of like a little Grad Nite in the park each night.

It is one of those things that you would have to be aware of when planning your trip. If it is that important for you to ride it as SM instead of RM then you should coordinate your day to make it work. At least it isn't as drastic as HMH were it is changed over for a period of months.

As long as it's not some lame 80's hair band (like a certain attraction at Disney-MGM) doing the music, I'm all for it. I kind of like that "Bohemian Rhapsody" idea posted by Figment571. Considering the slow ascent at the beginning of Space Mountain, they could certainly use some of the beginning of the song, too. It seems somewhat appropriate:

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see...

Of course, then there's that whole part about killing someone. They might need to do a wee bit of editing. But Queen is definitely a cool way to go.
