Space Mountain

one of the tracks on Space Mountain is about 10 feet longer than the other. This is due to the fact that it has to move out of the way of the other track when they cross each other. I came across this information on the show "Walt Disney World Inside Out" on the Disney Channel.

I thought it was the left side. . . .hmmm

The left side is used for the standby riders, and fastpass users get the right side. I personally like the left side better, so this usually upsets me, when we use fastpass. Interesting, I could've swarn it was the left side.

Not true on slower days, I have been on the right without fastpass on slower days, i have yet to have a right time.

I thought they collect the fastpass when you get to the top of the ramp before the control tower. There you can go either left or right. I always go the opposite direction of the annoying people in front of me.

The last tiem we were there, they did just that...took our fastpasses at the control tower. And I agree...get away from the annoying people in front of you!!!:)

I remember riding both sides repeatedly several years ago.

I could definately tell the difference between the sides and had a favorite - unfortunately, it was so long ago that I don't remember which side was best! :(

The big drop in the middle of the ride seems to be more intense on the left side. Also the left just always seemed to go faster for some reason to me.

I liked that show too! I still find myself looking through the lineup for re-runs.

I've basically given up on that show, but I should look at iO (interactive optimum by Cablevision cable company for those not from NY) for Disney Inside Out. Also "Is it just me, or is your favorite phrase from WDW, 'Por favor, mentengan se alejado de las puertas'? " no you aren't the only one....haha....I find myself saying that every once in a while also "Watch your headnstep" as another member has said...haha..I have also found that I caught Disney Fever again...(one of my first posts ever on this site)...I don't know how it just catches me and doesn't let go...haha....the rest of my family thinks im nuts :hammer:

Absolutly true.

Wether you are standby or fastpass they tell you what side to go (based on how busy each side is I assume), but if you just don't pay attention, they ususally don't stop you if you go to the side other than they tell you.

The left side is better in my opinion. It seems a little faster (although they are the same speed) and it seems to have more suprises, a bit less predictable

In August 2003 i went to Disney World and rode both sides of Space Mountain several times, and i have come to the conclusion that the LEFT side is better, well in my opinion at least! :D I think that the left side seems a lot faster than the right side.
