Therefore, a few times items have fallen out of a train and hit someone in a train below them. THIS IS WHY CMs have to make such a big deal about putting away all your items in the new blue pouches..its only happened a few times, but its still too many.

that I can vouch for from the time I worked in Tomorrowland. A guest on top had some sort of glass bottle, well it fell out of his bag and hit a kid at the bottom, who ended up getting her face sliced open.

Hi all, This is my first post. I've been trying to get registered for over 2 months now. Don't know why I couldn't, Glitch in the system I guess. I've been reading the posts daily and so many times I've wanted to chime in, but I was restricted

Anyways, with building codes (even in the 70's) and insurance regulations, I don't think they would allow the ride to continue to operate if there was any possibility of death or injury due to low clearance. If there were I think there would be a height limit posted prior to riding. Like it has been previously posted, I think it is just an illusion due to riding in the dark.

6 more days and I'm off to Walt Disney World :sohappy: for 8 Days of pure bliss. and in 14 days it's

I rode Space Mountain with my brother who is 6'6. Well I happen to open my eyes just when it "looked" like his head was going to be knocked off. I screamed. It probably was an illusion, but still scary. I told him I would never ride behind him again, because I didn't want to get to the end and have his head in my lap.:animwink:

Why do they have the "you can't be taller then this" sign, if you can't be "too tall to ride"? I hope that made sense. They had that sign many years ago when we rode it.

If they do have that sign then I guess I stand corrected. I guess I have never noticed it before. I just woudn't think Disney would set themselves up for the liability for having too low of clearance. I'll make it a point to look for it when I go next week.

Being 6'8'' I've grazed the steel bars at times on the ride with my hands before. The hardest part about SM though is managing to wedge the legs into the ride in the first place.
Some theme parks with Inverted roller coasters, the Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa, and Six Flags Darien Lake have denied me access before for being too tall to ride the ride.

Keep in mind that this was about 9 years ago. They made him stand next to stick or something that the CM was holding. since I'm only 5'2 the only sign I've ever had to stand next to is the one to make sure I'm tall enough. :D

The only way you would be too tall for SM is if you can't get into the rocket, or lock your lap bar down.

There is no sign stating that you have to be under a certain height.

They brought it over to my brother and asked him to stand next to it. They might not do it anymore, but they used to.

If they used to do it....then we don't do it anymore I can tell you that much. As long as that lap bar locks you are free to ride.

Having been a visitor to disney for 15 years, I can say I've never seen/heard/imagined something like this.

At Cedar Point there is a ride called the Gemini. There is a cross track the you pass under coming off the main hill. I swear that coming down that hill you think that is going to take your head off like a soft grape. but you never get within 15 feet of it. I've never been able to keep my heads up.

I know that beam! :D And that ride is out in the open too! There is another coaster at Six Flags St. Louis called the Ninja. When you come out of the 2nd loop, you go right under the lift hill chain that is returning to the bottom of the hill. It's a close call but it's fun to see everyone's hands go down at the same time on both of these rides.

It is rather funny to see all hands and some heads drop. Someone once yelled here it comes really loud and the whole party ducked down low. It was really funny.

No one has lost there heads. People like to make all kinds of stuff up about this but is just has not happened. Not during any time the ride has been running.

Can we just leave it at that?
Excuse me but it's an "Urban Legend"! Nobody is claiming it as truth. Why don't you stop worrying about what everyone is "caring" about.....

My friends Uncle worked at Disney and he said the supports were made of wood originally. He said in the morning a couple of guys would walk the track and drill holes in split beams. They would then insert flat bolts and tighten the splintered beams back together. Some beams had a dozen repairs to them and all kinds of objects were found on the floor, from cameras to souveneirs to underwear.

All of the urban legends posted here about Space Mountain are, in fact, legends. There is no truth to any of them. However, I will share one truth with you about the attraction. If the Space Mountain show building was completely filled with water, guests riding Space Mountain would likely drown.

Actually, that happened again last fall, a girl got hit with a gatorade bottle. That's right about the time they installed the blue pouches.

You wouldn't believe the stuff we find at night....i think a hair weave was the craziest..looked like a little poodle fell out of a rocket
